<< It's about time we declared war on hackers. >>

Which would mean the end to software technology as we know it.

If it weren't for us hackers you would still not know that your IIS server is a piece of crap that anyone with half a brain can shut down, if it werent for us hackers, i doubt you would even be running IIS, no hackers, no internet.

Hacking is part of the internet culture, like it or not, that is the way it is, protect yourself, from evil companies and hackers..

<< <<But what is a suspected terrorist?>>

That will probably be left up to the courts to decide. If they decide that your average joe isn't a suspected terrorist, all evidence collected using the new methods will be inadmissible.
>>

And that makes it right for them to spy on us? No.

<< <<The supreme court doesnt know what the constitution is let alone defend it. Corporations have taken care of that. Cha-CHING!>>

I have to disagree with that statement. If the Supreme Court didn't strike laws down on a regular basis, you would never see organizations like the ACLU (and while I don't always agree with the ACLU, I am certainly glad they are there) be so successful.
>>

DMCA still stands. sssca will likely pass.

<< <<So are you for or against government backdoored crypto?>>

I'm against that actually. I'm not sure how much it matter, though, as they likely have super-computers that can crack the encrpytion we use quite easily.
>>

That is highly doubtful. If you had said that the NSA (the scourge of all privacy concerned citizens) weakened many algorithms, then I would have agreed with you. If you had said that the NSA breaks the patent process to keep GOOD encryption algorithms out of the hands of the public, then I would have agreed with you.

Hackers and crackers are two totally different things. Get over it people. Be mad at the crackers, not the hackers.

<<And that makes it right for them to spy on us? No.>>

It doesn't make them right to spy on us, it makes it pointless for them to spy on us. If they know ahead of time that their breach of civil liberties will get their case thrown out, why would they bother breaching it? Is it customary for police to bust down doors without warrants these days? Not really, because they know that any evidence collected will just thrown out, which defeats the purpose entirely.

<<DMCA still stands. sssca will likely pass.>>

I'm unfamiliar with that acronym. How long has the DMCA been out there? In the United States we have what they call 'concrete' judicial review, meaning an actual court case has to be brought before the Supreme Court before it can be declared unconstitutional. Remember the first version of the CDA? That was the most fascist crap I've ever heard of in the United States, and even though it easily passed through Congress and the White House it didn't survive the Supreme Court case.

Its been around for a few years. Adobe used it to try and jail a russian hacker who beat the security of the ebook. http://www.anti-dmca.org for more information on it. But it basically says that reverse engineering is illegal. sssca has not been passed yet and is still in draft form, but it does not look good either at this point.

Let me just clarify something before I go to bed:

I'm not at all against your complaints of this bill. As a matter of fact, I'm extremely happy that you are so unsettled by it. We need people who question every little thing that our government does, to make sure they aren't taking away the liberties our country was founded on.

HOWEVER

I believe you could state your misgivings in a much more thoughtful manner. Linking to some site that just spews junk without evidence to back it up is not something anyone is going to take seriously. If you want people to take you seriously, you have to point out specific examples of what you don't like and tell us your reasons for not liking them. I believe you've done that now, but it had to be pulled from you.

Next time, leave out the 'Heil Bush' crap and show that you are above mindless propaganda. Comparing Bush to Hitler/Stalin will just cause people to immediately discard anything you say. ;)

Well, some people anyway. :p

Yeah I thought about that, and I realized that my condition last night was the wrong way to be when posting something like this. Not to mention the last time I posted something similar (about the sssca I think) I did it much better and got almost no response. :)

You have a point, sometimes people just want sensationalism. I guess that is often what makes a thread popular. ;)

Again, this was not meant to be a thread on economics. I am deffinately NOT a socialist. If I was I would not mind the government having the amount of power it does. I am definately not a communist because I believe you should work for what you earn. I cannot believe in capitalism because of the cut-throat nature it brings out. Economically speaking, Im lost, broke, and confused :p
