Edit - no duh the picture doesn't work, this thread is almost 3 months old. Should read some of the posts before commenting :p . I have a 9700 pro now and put back on the stock fan on the ti 200 and gave it to my dad.

I've been trying to have super quiet rig. I had this heatsink laying around from my intel I replaced so I thought what the heck lets have some fun. So I drilled two holes in the heatsink and used some thermal grease and attached it. Ran 3dmarks fine. Plays games fine. Seems to work good. Gets really hot to the touch but the video never freezes. I also had my card overclocked to high heaven. I took it down a bit now though. Don't want to take any chances. I could always stick a slow and quiet 80mm fan over it if I needed to. Put an adjuster on a fan and turn it super low and it'd be pretty much silent still. Right now the loudest thing in my case is my harddrive :D

(oh yeah this is on a geforce 3).

Two things:
1. Zalman has a heatpipe to actively transfer heat away from gpu
2. They only cost $30, and you spent how much time on this?

Yeah, if you stick a 2x4 underneath it, and wear those headphone type ear protectors!

1. Has way better cooling fins so it doesn't need the heatpipe
2. probably took half the time than it would have to put a zalman on (plus the time I saved to go buy it)
3. It was FREE and WORKS.

Don't be so negitive.

This whole "quiet pc" fad is just that. Passive cooling is not as effective as active, so I know what i would rather have.

I did something similar to my GF3 Ti 200, but I used a retail Intel Pentium III cooler w/fan. It ran at 266 core without a problem, but blocked two PCI slots. That aluminum is hard to drill.
