I live in Florida, they often hang around the inlet/outlets of nuclear, coal, or other power plants because of the hot water discharge in the winter time. In the summer they then move out to sea and away from the power plants. Some times they can be spotted swimming inland up certain rivers when the season is right.

By nature manatees are vegetarians and never leave the water to come ashore like a walrus would. They spawn a new calf once every 8 years. Because they spend a lot of time close to the surface. They are an endangerd species with their greatest and only threat is being hit by motor boat propellors.
