gotta love the P4 1.6A....... doing the 50% overclock without a hiccup, i had to slow my roll on the memory timings but still kicking ass and taking names.

a few complaints....

all due to motherboard issues.... (Asus P4B266-C)

motherboard beeps randomly
USB weird (means i can't use my intellimouse explorer in USB, i have to switch it to PS/2 and take my logitech out completely. yes i run two mice)
CPU thermal reading not accurate(i really doubt i'm only hitting 104F aka 40C)

other then that i'm more then happy.... time to go for the elusive 2500mhz...

details

P4 1.6A (SL688 1/16/02)
Asus P4B266-C (bios 1002)
Crucial PC2100 @ 150mhz @ CAS3
Alpha PAL8942 w/ 37 CFM sunon

I heave heard about the USB issue on the P4b266 series, but both my 1.6a @ 2.4 rigs have no problems with USB mouse/keyboards. The 40c issue means your cpu temp is at or below 40c, and when you have it under load it should climb. One of my rigs can hit 2.5 @ 1.7v but it isn't stable. I hope you have better luck. 🙂

The problem is with the P4B266-C because it's only got Usb 1.

The P4B266 with Usb 2 doesnt have any problems when you use usb2 & go over 133mhz.

I have seen this problem first hand on my P4B266-C when i tried to use my Ms intellimouse optical on the Usb port over 133mhz,when you use the PS/2 port all is fine.

Maybe a bios can fix it,I dunno.

Here's a thread with people having the same probs with mice & the P4B266-C

I have (2) P4B266-C's (150FSB on both, turbo 1) w/ the 1002 bios and no USB problems using the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 & Logitech Mouseman Optical.

From what I've seen, it seems to be random if you have USB problems with the P4B266-C. Mine works flawlessly.

Then you're very lucky John to not have that problem, the instant I plug my Intellimouse optical on my usb port & I go over 133mhz the computer doesnt boot & the back led of my mouse just flickers on & off non stop.

If I remove the mouse while it's doing that it just boots normally,I hope a simple bios update will fix that as not everybody seems to be having the same problem.

That beeping might have to do with the fact that you have your vcore high. The Asus board for some reason when you get up into the 1.75vcore + range will beep randomly, the higher you go the more constant the beeping. If its too much of a problem just unplug the speaker connection from your motherboard 😀

yeah i've already unplugged the speaker...

she didn't make it the intire night..... rebooted about 5 hours into the loop.🙁

the bios situation with this board is iffy, the newest release on the website is 1001, yet the board ships with 1002? the USB is a pain in the ass..... but i can deal.... i prefer using balled mice for gaming, but i'll have to deal with the optical exploder for now.

In my case Prime95 doesn't catch the instablity from my 1.6A@2.4GHz. At 1.75V Prime95 could loop all day long but MOH would crash after 2-3 hours. It corrupted my Win2000 too. At last I have to step down to 2.33GHz @ 1.63V. Perhaps it's overheat, at 2.4GHz peak temp is almost 60C. I'm still waiting for my friend's Sunflower to come.
