Heh. If I ever want an automatic, I'm getting a CVT. :-D

So I'm driving home today in my Geo Prizm (stick) and the roads are kind of wet. I make a right turn from a stop and decide to spin my tires because I figure I can since it's wet out. So I up the revs and drop the clutch, standard procedure.

The wheels spun all right, but when my revs hit 5000 (redline is 6k) the tach just sat there and I started accelerating as my wheels gained grip on the road. Unfortunately I can only go 35 in first gear so my fun was a bit shortlived, but it was really cool. :D Dunno why Audi programmed 6 "gears" into their CVT, I'd have plenty of fun accelerating like *that* all the way up.

With the belts Audi is using, don't expect to be controlling large amounts of torque. They can handle less than 300lb-ft. Nissan may have some good things coming up ahead though.

Belts? Audi's CVT uses a chain, although it's still not capable of handling more torque than the 3.0 motor can produce. About 240 lb-ft is the limit if I remember correctly.

Hmmm, I can hit the gas and break my tires loose at 45mph in my non CVT Auto anytime I want and my tires are bigger then your little bike sized one's ;) ... try 285/70/R16's on your next try :)

You're missing the point, which is that my RPMs jumped to 5000 and stayed there while my car accelerated. Yes, this happened because the wheels broke loose, but that's nothing special in my vehicle or yours.

And I'm fully aware that my car's performance is pathetic in every respect compared to your blown truck. But then, my car is a heck of a lot cheaper in every respect than your truck and that's what's important right now. :)
