I went to a seminar last week & one of the speakers had this plan for moving ER patients into stretchers onto the floor when there were no beds, they get placed in the hall on the ward they're going to eventually, only 2 patients per ward, 25% of them actually get plaed in a bed immediately, 25% get placed in a bed within the hour, and 50% of them get a bed within 8 hours. Instead of having to try to live in the ER waiting for a bed to open up, they get care form th floor staff (nurses & doctors etc) in a safer more appropriate environment.
My wife still works in the hospital I used to work at, and she took the idea to her boss and the chief of the ER, they love the idea & are anticipating implementing it. (I think it sucks because it really doesn't solve any problems, it just backfills everyhting & will make it (hospital overcrowding) worse in the long run.)
But the ward nurses will hate it & I hated them...
