so i was parking my car today and was gonna put quarters into the meter thing, when i accidently put a peso coin (Filipino currency) into the meter. And 'lo and behold, it clocked an hour. Then i noticed that the peso and the quarter are about the same sizes. So woot, instead of paying 25 cents, ill be paying .02 cents (60 pesos is about 1 dollar).. heh..

Proud that you are a thief?

Parking meters are free for one week when you park in the assigned slots for the SS Garbage Scow cruise.

I didn't realize pesos were "metric", but it makes sense. Everything else down there is too.

Should be easy. Mexicans don't seem to want them for some reason...the only thing they want is the US dollar.

My roommate in college used to do the same thing with Jamaican dimes - I think they were worth about a penny.

Theres a parking lot near here in front of a bunch of restaurants that used to allow 2 hours of parking for free. Now recently, they changed to a maximum of 1 hour and it costs $2 in coins (parking meters) to park there. Screw that.

Necco wafers and Canadian quarters used to work in the buckets on the Dulles Toll Road in NOVA. I know they fixed the Necco wafers thing, no idea about the Canadian quarters.

And how much of that money goes to the city that provides the parking spots?

If he's too cheap to spare a QUARTER to park he should save the metered parking spots for us rich folks who can afford a QUARTER to park and find himself a free lot.

Yeah, and not paying is certianly going to help... What are you trying to make it .5 hours for $5?

Perhaps you should vote the city council members out of office for it.
How about not parking there?
Or better yet, if it's that high price, buy a parking lot downtown and make your own rates. You should make a killing undercutting the city.

Not parking there isn't a choice because there aren't any other parking lots within walking distance. And since there are 2 restaurants in this cluster that have no other locations, there isn't much of a choice here.
If you read my whole post, you'd see that the city already taxes the crap out of us for just owning the car. I have to pay personal property tax every year on my car. That money goes towards fixing the damned streets and whatnot.

Philadelphia parking is more expensive than New York. For the streets, I pay a quarter for about 12.5 minutes. I'd love to do this, but I'm too honest to actually do it.

Pardon me if I don't care about your reasons for not paying for what you use.

Did you not understand my post where you can fix these undue taxes by electing other city officials to ease/reduce them? Are you aware what taxation WITH representation is? 'Cause you have it...

You can: not drive, don't go, move elsewhere.

What makes you think your current taxes are enough to cover parking as well as roads? Every city has meters for a reason... Does your city have a tax surplus? Are city funds mis-managed?

To summary my next post

Pardon me if I don't care about your reasons for not paying for what you use.

Then don't respond :) My reasons are very valid and good enough for me. If you can't understand them, it's not my problem nor my concern.
BTW I do vote but the issue of parking meters never seems to come up with any candidates nor do they address it.

You can: not drive, don't go, move elsewhere.
That really has to be one of the dumbest things I've read in this thread. Why should the restaurant lose business and why should I not get to enjoy my favorite foods? Why should I change jobs and move somewhere else over a meter? Do you live in the real world? Not driving isn't an option because there is no easy way to get here. And it's not laziness speaking here. If there was a bus stop within walking distance of this cluster, I would gladly take the bus. I'll repeat, I already pay an excess of taxes regarding my vehicle. Metered parking is over the line in this situation.

If its anything like my city, they aren't even attempting to repair the roads. They just take the money and run.

WTG cheating the system and bragging about it on a public forum. I thought the admins didn't take kindly to this kind of sh!t.

Do realize that many places have cameras and repeat offenses of sticking funny money in a parking meter is theft. Knowingly ripping off the system and getting caught and you will is a felony. Have fun in a FPMITAP.

I doubt it would be very cheap to get many of those pesos. You'll have much higher fees to buy a bunch of currency in that form, especially one that's not commonly traded and in such low quantity.

For those of you who think it's "unethical" and are yelling "pay your taxes":

Parking meter fees are not intended to be a tax. They are there so that people do not park no longer than the stated limit, so other people can park. However, the revenues parking meters have generated have tempted city politicians to get greedy and see it as another form of revenue. The most egregious such example is in Westwood, where it costs $0.25 for 7.5 minutes of parking. You can either see that as "I'm going to squeeze all the money I can out of you" or "don't park long because parking is scarce, give others a chance to do their shopping."

Therefore, I have no problem with him using filipino pesos.

This parking meter will be free for a week.
