This is driving me crazy! I have a windows 98 SE system with a Intel PRO 100+ network card. The system was working fine eariler today until I added a new TV card. I cannot get this system to go on the internet no matter what I do. The computer can ping other websites through a DOS prompt, it can see everyone on the network, but no matter what I do, It won't pull up a website, and I can't access my email. It seems that TCP/IP files got corrupted somehow. I even tried removing and adding the protocols. I changed the network card with another one, and that didnt resolve it. I took all the cards out except the network card, and it is having the same problem. I am sure this is a software issue. Everytime I try to pull up a webpage, IE says DNS error and crashes, but I checked all the internet settings a millon times and they are fine. I even scanned for viruses, but I didn't add any new software recently. I believe I tried everything short of throwing the computer out the window.

Static IP. All the computers can go on the net except this one. I checked the settings a million times. This computer is driving me nuts. I also notice everytime I move the network card to another PCI slot windows redetects it and adds another card in the network panel. Why does it do that! Stupid windows.

When I try to access my Linux Router through Putty, I get an error that states that TCP/IP support is not present. It's as if the computer has no TCP/IP protocols installed when it does.

well, at this point, here's what i would do

remove ALL network components (i.e. tcp/ip , client for microsoft networks, networking adapter)...shut down

remove NIC , then boot up w/out NIC installed

then shutdown

re-install NIC , re-add protocols..re-configure

report back!
