I go to take a dump, and when I come back, my PC is crashed by nv4_mini.sys, so I know it was the detonator drivers that caused it. Only problem is, now whenever I try to boot, I get BSOD and it says unmountable boot volume or something like that.

I figured I'd reinstall XP, but when I go to do so, it says the entire hard drive has been wiped clean.

But I know thats not true because if I let it start up by itself, the Winxp splash screen and everything is still there.

Safe mode wont work, same problem. I cant reinstall because then Id lose everything. What to do?

Argh!! I know how you feel. I got unmountable boot volume errors TWICE, both from deleting temporary internet files in IE6 while restarting the computer. The only solution I found was just to reformat and reinstall the OS, I never did find out how to remedy the situation otherwise.

My solution is to carefully get my system just the way I want it then use Norton Ghost 2002 to back it up. That way when the computer eventually crashes (usually because I do something unorthodox ;) ) I can have it back up and running in 10-15 minutes.

Managed to fix it. Booted to recovery console, and used chkdsk /r. Works like a charm now.
