HEC HP585DR 585W ORION - $20 Instant Rebate

I don't know anything about HEC PSU's, looks good though. Mfg. Link. Lowest shipping for me would be $9.50. This makes the shipped cost similar to Axiontech and Directron.

I bought one of these from directron a few months ago. Usually, with PSU's you get what you pay for. I was too paranoid to use it myself so I gave it away 😀. It turned out just fine for him. Running it with a 3.4Ghz Prescott, ATI x1600 Pro, and about 5 hard drives over a couple months and no problems. I still wouldn't use it with anything mission critical though.

I have several, and these are great PSU's if you don't mind them being very plain and noisy. Very stable rails. My high-end Antec went out, and this was all I had around to replace it. Working great until I grab something quieter.

I put one in my nephews AMD 3800+ box running a x1900GT, 7200.10 disk, Audigy2VS, and 1gig Patriot memory and so far its been flawless. My only real concern is it seems they saved money by going with some undersized heat sinks which could lead to heat problems when under load....but none so far at least. Been up and running for around 6 months now with no known problems.

If I remember correctly, HEC is was the manufacturer for some of the top tier PSU vendors back in the day. I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about their products in the past.

I've purchased this PSU for 8 PC's @ my work..
noise wise they are alritez~
u can still hear the fan, @ minimal level though..
but if noise is really an issue for u.. get an Antec TruePower.. so far it's one of the quietest i've experienced.

But the ORION HP585D has worked out great.. so far..

I just got one of these. It looked pretty decent to me, since it has dual rails at 19A and 20A respectively. I've seen a lot of people all over the web that say that they work great, and some that have replaced them just because the fact that they don't cost a lot scares them, but I've yet to see a post that they suck. I think they don't cost as much because HEC makes them themselves.

It's not the most attractive or quiet PSU, but if it gets the job done, I can forgive it for being ugly and loud since it's cheap 🙂.

HEC makes solid no-nonsense no-frills PSUs. You do get what you pay for, but in this case that means no fancy lighting/casing/cables and a simple yet proven design.
