Okay, so I need to buy a new heatsink for an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice socket 939 of course. Looking for one in the 30-50 dollar range. ordering right now 😀
 
go for the Scythe Ninja.. Perhaps the best cooler for the price. It's a good rival to the si120, big typhoon, but with the ninja you can run 2x120mm fans for even more performance.
 
Yeah, go for the Ninja. Definitely don't go for any of the Zalmans, especially not the 7700, as it's rather pricey and doesn't perform nearly as well as the other heatsinks.

I disagree!!
The Zalman 9500 is everybit the equal of the Typgoon as well as the XP120.

But with that said the Scythe Ninja is at least as good or better than all the other heatsinks.
yet when you are talking good or better remember we are only talking about a 1-3c difference!!

The 7700 is not what I would go with!!
But plz don`t lump the Zalman 9500 in with the 7700...there is no comparison!!


 
Go for the SI-120.
It's a nice one. If you get the BT, Ninja, or the SI-120 you'll be happy. They all offer about the same performance. The Zalman 9500 uses a 92mm fan, which can potentialy be louder than a 120mm one, and not perform as well. Just stay away from Zalman.

I've only read reviews (and have a Zalman 9500 sitting on my desk ready to install). The 7700s were a great series of fans before heatpipes. Heatpipes are a great way to move heat away from a CPU. A good heatpipe cooler can be as efective as an entry level watercooling kit, at much lower cost.

Acording to reviews the Ninja and SI-120 are top choices as well. However they are also over your budget when you add a nice fan.

Looks like the XP-90 + Fan is a good choice for that budget range.

I bought the above mentioned Zalman 9500 because not only is it a good performer ... it also looks really nice. As a gift for someone obsessed with Blue LED fans it is perfect.

I know some people also like the Arctic Coolers for budget quiet/non-overclocking solutions. You can find reviews in the sticky:

Final Comments:
- If you have time read some of the reviews.
- At the very least read at least one review on which ever one you select. All of these coolers are large and may not fit every situation. You will learn if there are any install issues.

The Ninja is definitely better than the XP-90 and you can put a quieter fan on it - only for about $15 more...I think the question is, why not?

Why not! ??

Considerations.
The Ninja weighs 665g w/o fan and carries a good portion of it high=torque loud on the board. This is a concern if the rig is transported.
If a fan is used on it, none of that air is directed at the board for cooling RAM, MOSFETS or caps.

The XP-90 aluminum retail can be had at Jab-Tech for $32. Retail it comes with a fan.
It weighs 360g w/o fan, carries that weight low. A 92x25mm fan at 40cfm is not a noise maker, plus this exhaust air from the HS cools the board componets.

Galvinizied, why would OP buy a 92mm fan cooler when he could buy a 120mm cooler? I like ur points, but u get all that plus a quieter fan with the SI-120.
 
See sig...Im sooooo much happy with them 😀 I really recommend them both...if you dont like them you can go for SI-120 and a 120 panaflo, yate loom or nexus...
