heatsink wont clip in

JD50

Lifer
I'm trying to put in my X2 3800 processor and the damn heatsink wont clip in. This is my first build, so I wasnt sure if I was doing something wrong, but from watching the video on the AMD website I know I was doing it correctly. It seems that the metal clips on the side of the heatsink arent wide enough, they will not slide over the plastic clip on the mobo. So I tried to take my heatsink off the processor but the processor just came up with the heatsink. Am I totally screwed?

well, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I guess I didn't seat the processor in correctly so I bent 3 of the little pins when I was trying to get the heatsink to snap in. I just got the pins back to the proper position so the processor seats correctly, and I got the heatsink clipped in. I really hope I didn't ruin my $350 processor while doing this, I guess I'll find out when I get done building this.

Well, its working so far, I'm formatting the drive so I can install windows now(I forgot how long it takes to format a 300gb drive), I'm so relieved, it took me about 30 min to get those damn pins straight again.

Heh, hope nothing is broken. Always check if your processor is seated corectly. I almost broke my P4 2.0 northwood putting some AS5 on, but luckily, nothing was bent.

The last time I had to use a lot of force to put on a heatsink, I put it at an angle. Use a mirror to look at the side of it.

friend got an x2 recently, bent the pins too. prob was, he bent them back too hard or something and broke it off. sucks to be him. glad to hear you got it in 🙂
