I just received a used motherboard from a guy. The motherboard is the DFI nF4X, socket 754. Apparently the "heatsink retention module" has been removed. This is the black plastic square around the CPU socket that the heatsink attaches onto. See in this photo.

WTF should I do about this? Now, I could use the module from my Asus board, but the hardware on the bottom of the board that the module screws into is firmly attached, so could I just find some nuts and washers that would fit? I don't know what to do.

You can either purchase a retention bracket from FS/FT forums, or a HSF that has it's own mount. I use a Zalman 7700Cu, comes with it's own mounting hardware. Check the Zalman site for compatibility first though.

side note: i attempted removing the bracket from the K8V SE Deluxe before, it didn't turn out to well.

was it made clear by the seller that the heatsink bracket was missing?

Anyway you can order on from here.

Maybe you could ask for a small refund if you have to buy the bracket.
