Heatsink Installation question

I bought an Asus A8V and a Thermaltake XP-90. The picture shows the motherboard with the RM that came with the heatsink. According to the directions, it's necessary for the heatsink to go on the board.

When attaching the XP-90, it tells you to do what I'm doing in the picture. Hook the one side without the pipes, and then take a screwdriver and force the heatsink down till you can hook the other side. I've always been taught that applying pressure like that from an angle will crush the chip. There is absolutely no way to put it on flat, and doing it as in the picture you would have to almost stand on it to push it down. I got it on easy enough without the chip in, but with the chip in it's REALLY tight.

Is this right? Am I missing something?

i just installed the xp-90 too, and i didn't need a screw driver to put it in, in fact i couldnt figure out how you would go about hooking the two hinges into the retention base with the screwdriver. what i did was just push the little aluminum hooks down until they hooked into place with my fingers while trying to equalize the pressure on the whole thing. i do remember thinknig that i was putting too much pressure on it, not so much on the cpu as the motherboard itself however.

Alright, thanks for the input. I guess by now if anyone else saw the picture and it was way out of whack they would have posted by now. Gonna start the build this weekend :)

This is what I did when installing my Xp-90 onto my EPoX mobo, I eased one clip down and hooked it easily because there was no opposing pressure/force, then the clip diagonal from the one I hooked on I clipped that one down, and since it's being held in place I just used the necessary force to clip down the other the hooks and bam, you got your self a new heatsink. Also, I reccomend seeing if the heatsink it self will be in the way of the DIMM slots, it was on mine and I chose to face it the other way and have it overlap the mobo power cables.

The cpu does have a heatspreader protecting it unlike athlons with the heatsink directly on the chip.

Aha! That makes me feel a lot better about smashing the heatsink down on the chip like that.
