I just put together my sytem a couple of months ago and have a question regarding heatsink/fan. The specs of my system are

AMD Athalon XP 2100+ processor
Giga-Byte GA-7DXR+ (AMD? 761 AGPset)
512 PC2100 DDRAM (Mushkin 1 module)
60 GB IBM HD and 30 GB Maxtor HD

My system is always very loud and when it first starts it makes an aweful noise for about 5 mintues then it goes away, but still continues to be very loud. I am currnetly using a Coolermaster heatsink/fan which shipped with my processor. I am wondering if buying a new fan would help my sytem performance, at times i think my system is getting too hot but I do not know how to be sure. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. I do not know anything about heatsink and fans so please let me know about an exact modle and if anyone else has had these problems. Thank you very much for your help.

If you want a high performing/low noise HSF, then go for a heatsink that accepts 80mm fans like tha Alpha 8045 or the Thermalright AX-7. For fans there many more choices for 80mm fans. You can go with one that is thermally controlled; it only speeds up when the temps are higher.
