I want to clean the heatsink of my cpu because there's a lot of dust in there. But i can't take the heatsink out (i didn't assemble the comp). First i unclipped the two clips at the top, then it becomes a bit loose but there's still something holding down the heatsink/fan.

Anyone got any ideas on how to take out the cpu heatsink/fan safely on a P4P800 Deluxe Motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it may just be the thermal compound causing a suction effect.

I think he's right about the thermal pad. I had a thermal pad once act like contact glue.

Do you have a plan on reinstalling the heat sink? I don't know how experienced you are, but there has to be a thermal interface between the cpu and heatsink. If you do have a thermal pad and pull off the heat sink it is should not be reused, it should be completely cleaned and new thermal compound needs to be installed (something like Artic Silver 5) or any number of products. Sorry if I'm assuming, but you don't normally pull a heat sink off just to blow out dust.

Thanks for your advice guys, maybe ur right, taking the heatsink out just to blow out dust would not be wise. I also posted the original post in the CPU section of the forum and some of the guys there suggested using a can of compressed air to clean it. I don't know how it works. But i'll have to try that i guess. This is all cuz my cpu fan is working overload due to the heat that's being trapped inside the heatsink by the dust. It used to be around 3900 rpm at 41C, now it's like 5800 at 41C...some how this doesn't look right to me, what do u think?
