Heatsink/CPU/Thermal Compound

I just removed my cpu from another comp (Amd Athlon Xp 1900+) and looked on the bottom of the heatsink and there was this pink crap on it and the cpu core print in the middle... i was wondering.. if i can see the holographic image saying amd and a bunch of number on the core, does that mean there is none of that pink crap on the core right... in other words if i can see the amd holographic with numbers, there is none of that pink thermal compound on it? So can I put Artic Silver 3 on it then even if there might be a little? And it doesnt matter if some of that pink crap is on the green part of the processor right, by the cpu core?

i would still clean off as much as possible, and definitely use some rubbing alcohol to be certain

[*]clean off all the original pink thermal pad that is on the cpu and heatsink. Goof off and lighter fluid work well.
[*]apply a thin, thin, thin coat of ASIII to the cpu core only
[*]reattach heatsink

Wont alcohol damage the core??? I can see the holographic image of the amd, but still see stains of the pink stuff on the core a little... and can i use vodka to clean it off???? and should i clean it off the green part of the processor

LOL why in the world would you use vodka to clean of a processor? why don't you take john's advice and get some goof off it works really well!

You can get goof off at your local hardware store.
