Hey guys. In the middle of building a new comp for friend. He's got some burn marks on the heatsink that were caused by another cpu we fried before. Question is: will this heatsink fry this cpu that is new? It's the new alpha PAL 8045T. Thanks.

um... if you are concerned, you can always take fine sandpaper (400-600+) and sand them off... and lap it in the process 😉

I wouldn't think so. Lap the crap off as best you can. Rub it down with alcohol, dry, tint, attach. If it fries it aint my fault though 🙂

I'd go for something like 1000-1200 on an Alpha 8045, that copper is really fragile. It took me like 2 circles with a 1200 to get the indention out.

hey jones, i saw those pictures. i pulled off another hsf last night and had the same markings as your's. it's prolly from the pressure and all that was stated in your previous thread. anyhow, thanks for the help.

we finally ended up using another hsf combo and worked fine. the alpha wouldn't even fit on there after we tried. =)

but there are still "burn" marks on it and they don't come off with rubbing alcohol over and over. somehow getting that off would helpful, but not needed.
