heater core mod?

Okay, the title wasn't exactly accurate. By heater core mod I mean heater core pounding. I just bought a used heater core that is just like this type. The only thing is that it is about 1/8" too thick to fit in a 5.25 bay. So I lightly pounded in the sides. Basically the two colums on the outsides are smushed in. My question is whether or not this will effect cooling performance. It doesn't even look like water would travel on the outsides but even if it did, would it effect the cooling much? If you need a picture of the aftermath, I can upload some.

Yep; also, if you bent fins, you hurt airflow as well.

I would seriously leak-test that system for 48 hours OUTSIDE the case first. :Q
 
hmm, never thought about leakage. I don't think airflow is effected much because it is only on the edges. I will definelty test it before use.
 
Yes I am brave! Actually I'm just too broke to spend $50 on a BIX.

OrooOroo, keep the rad outside the case? It'll look ugly...especially after the nasty modding I've done to mine.
 
LOL, do some thinking before doing any damaging mods. I just realized that I did not need to pound the heck out of my rad.
