Heater/AC won't blow through vents

My 95 Grand Prix won't blow hot or cold through the vents. It wasn't such a big deal during the winter, it got warm enough. But now that the heat will be here, I would like to get the AC blowing. It blows through defrost and defrost/floor.

Any ideas on what's going on? Also, can someone link me to a recharge kit for the AC?

GT, GTP or SE?

It probably doesn't matter which, because it looks like all three use vacuum to control the mode doors. You'll have to find the line coming into the passenger compartment and see if there is vacuum there. There are check valves, and a control head among other things in the system.

If vacuum is present, you'll have to determine why the vacuum is not being routed to the actuator or actuators. It it's present at the actuator(s) and they are not moving, they're either bound up on something or just have gone bad.

Hope that helps.

As far as a recharge kit, I'm sorry but I don't condone using them. Someone else will have to help you with that.

The A/C is a sealed system. If it needs a charge, it has a leak somewhere and you'll need to get that fixed first.

Boomerang already hit the nail on the head about the vacuum lines.

If the air won't blow out of the vents, as said above, it's a vacuum leak somewhere. Usually the vacuum signal hose/tube coming from the engine into the passenger compartment. There's flapper doors that direct the airflow and are controlled by vacuum from the engine. If there is a vacuum loss, more than likely, they will only blow out of the heater vents on the floor.

*IF* the A/C does need charged - take it somewhere, get the leak fixed first, and let them repair it. Otherwise, you're chasing your tail.

I agree. Get the AC checked. I bought a used car with AC that didn't work, it turns out that somebody had monkeyed with it and the valve core in the fill valve was bad. A new valve core and refrigerant solved it. Not all AC repairs are pricey.
