Heat Sink Compound helP!!! Pretty please =)

What happens if I just squirt the compound on the die, and when I put the fan on the cpu it squeezes it out from the center and touches the other thingys on the side.

And can I use the compound with the already peel off sticker type compound they have on the bottom of the heatsink.

Thank you.

I assume you are talking about Arctic Silver type thermal compound. It shouldn't squeeze out very much and the layer applied should be very thin and cover the entire die. Look here Link for instructions about applying Arctic Silver and removing it from the CPU ceramic. If compound did get on the ceramic of the CPU, you should clean it off as described by the above link.

You can use the thermal pad that comes attached to the heat sink but use it only if you're not overclocking and remove it if you will be using Arctic Silver 2.

use arctic silver...

apply less than a pea-sized amount and use your finger in a plastic bag to spread it

I found that it doesn't matter if some of the compound leaks onto the processor... even the resistors on the top of the AMD processors. (I did this with the Arctic Silver II) And you should follow the advice of the previous posts on applying the compound since your method is pretty poor.🙂

Make sure you take the sticker off completely or else you won't be getting the full effects of the thermal compound that you are applying.

Only use 1; either sticker, or paste.
Never both.

Oh, and it doesn't really matter how much you squirt out; modern heatsinks clip so tight they'll push out most if not all of the AS2 so the layer is thin enough.

Man.... the thermal tape is pretty bad.. I had the tape on my friend's computer, and when I decided that I want to use AS 2 instead, and took the HS out, I found out that the tape has melted and formed little clusters on the die and the HS.... that can't be a good thing
