for background info check here, so on a whim, i decided to add a little more artic silver and reseat my heatsink and amazingly i was able to boot up at 133 FSB...

BUT....when i run some programs...it will either restart or lockup. since i have motherboard monitor running, it shows that it locks up at 52C...yes i know its high, but right now the outdoor temps are 86F, and its past midnite...arggg...anyways...when i have it set to 100FSB...i can run perfectly fine up to even 56C with no problems, at least none that i can see...

any ideas people??

Wow the plot thickens !

I did ask this from your last post .

When you moved the parts from your old case did you remove all your components from the motherboard such as the cpu and memory or did you leave them installed ?

So the Whim was a good hunch , so with those thoughts did you previously have any trouble with heat or applications locking up ?

Is your fan spinning correctly ? ie does it spin erratically such as being clogged up with dust .

How different is the new case regarding cooling compared to the old case you were using ?

when i moved it from my old case, i didn't remove anything, i just moved it as is....probably a bad idea on my part. But the main reason why i changed cases was to get better cooling. whereas i had a small case before with hardly and air flow, i got this case it has numerous fans and is supposed to keep things pretty damn cool.

anywho...before i moved it out of my case, it was locking up at 52C when on 133FSB, i figured that was because of the heat...hence the new case...so i figured i would move it into my new case and everything would be good...who knew the first 4 days i would have to run it at 100FSB...but it did reach 56C and seemed pretty stable..i was putting it on full load for 8 hours at a time and it stayed on 56-57C for that time...so now i have a feeling my chip is stubborn....any more background info is needed? feel free to ask..im just so frustrated..

I agree stubborn is the word alrighty !

For an XP chip it sure does seem to be a pain that it won't run default speed without locking up , does your heatsink make plenty of contact to the core of the cpu ? Pretty hard to see with out taking the mobo out and looking at it.

Are you using the HSF that came with the cpu or an aftermarket one ?

BTW nice case , seems to be quite a popular model on the net .

im using a thermaltake volcano 7+....and when i was looking at the HSF and mobo outside the case...it seemed to be making good contact...of course this was before i reseated it again...but still...

it still doesn't make sense that it locks up at 52C, and not 56 rite? why me?!!?!?!

btw thanks gazaa...you've been a great help

Well like Johnny mentioned in your last post it's possible your cpu is heading south !

If hadn't known you were running a XP cpu i'd swear you were using a 200fsb t bird instead .

alrite, i will try the cpu in a different mobo to confirm that the cpu is bad...unless its my mobo...<praying its my mobo> cheaper than a new chip..

alrite, i never tried my cpu in my new mobo...but..now that the temps here in NYC has cooled down, i put it back to 133FSB and it runs fine...now its at 46C load...but once the weather here gets warmer, i can almost guarantee its gonna screw me over again...still think its the chip?? cuz when it was on 100FSB it would still run at 56C
