I went ahead and bought all of the Naxx wings. Figured for the price vs. the amount of time I've already gotten out of the game for free it was worth it. At this point I'm just debating whether I should drop cash on some core packs or not.

What do you guys think about dusting gold versions of cards? I've got a few rares that look like something I wouldn't use currently but I know that by dusting them I could buy some cards I would definitely use right now. Seems like dusting them would make sense.

I'd never dust golds as I like using them and they are harder to come by.

For right now I would not dust anything until we see which cards are being changed. In the past, every card that has been changed has been dustable for full value, not the quarter value you get normally. By dusting a card right now, you risk getting 3x more dust just to have it a few days/weeks early.

As for my philosophy for gold cards, dust them if you already have your deck max. If you ever get all the cards out there you can consider not dusting them. There might be only 1 or 2 exceptions to the above (possibly keeping a decent gold legendary (decent as in a non-useless legendary, like Dr. Boom, Rag, Alex...), but even then, many times I would say consider dusting it since you can then craft whatever legendary you really want/need).

So looks like they'll be adjusting around a dozen cards from the base set for the new "formats", no buffs all nerfs and most of them will be for the druid class per the latest dev info.

They've said no full value dust for cards being removed from standard. Would not be surprised if same applies to any cards about to be modified from base set.

Well, base cards (i.e. free ones) obviously wouldn't give you full dust which makes sense (no one spent dust to craft any of those cards in the first place). But every other card change/modification has resulted in full dust value for a few days/weeks on the card.

Im about to see if my cheap standard compatible face hunter can take me to at least 15 in ranked mode, it seems like the rewards level out there unless you can make it to legend, wish me luck.

Well, you can get a golden epic around 8 (or something like that). A face hunter can still do well, as long as you are not against a dragon priest, handlock, or zoolock (and some mage builds as well). I just never liked playing as face hunter, just make sure you don't forget to have some card draw in that deck as you will need it.

Golden epic reward comes at rank 5. After that it's just extra dust until hitting legend where you don't get the dust but get an extra golden common instead.

Check out this all rare pack I just got yesterday... first time I've ever opened a pack like this. 80 dust + another potential 100 from the golden, but I'll be keeping it.

From the small research i did, it seemed like face hunter was the easiest way for a new player to easily climb the first part of the ladder. I think taking out some of the "wild" cards hurts the deck as you cant proc free secrets with mad scientist. Since i didnt think spending mana on defense was prudent, i took out the secrets as well. The deck is almost entirely cheap beasts and other synergistic creatures. Anything obvious you see that Im missing(*= 1 copy)?

I don't think Face Hunter is a good deck to be climbing the ladder right now, quite a few popular decks right now beat face hunter, and esp. since you're missing key cards and aren't using "wild" cards and secrets, making your deck too slow. I don't know your collection so it's hard to give deck advice but maybe try a warlock zoo deck or an aggro shaman, both these aggro decks are better than face hunters right now. Or maybe try Midrange Hunter instead, since you already have the Highmanes and Sylvanas, and these cards are bad in Face Hunter while being some of the best Midrange Hunter cards. Midrange Hunter can also make use of your King's Elekk which is bad in face hunter.

If you do decide to stick with face hunter, remember the deck doesn't need any card draw and it shouldn't have minions above 4 mana cost in it (besides Leeroy). Try to remove these cards from face hunter: Sylvanas, Highmane, Houndmaster, Raid Leader, Scavenging hyena, and Timber Wolf. Use these cards instead if you have them: Argent Horserider, Arcane Golem, Eaglehorn bow, Brave archer (you need another 1 drop and this one is decent)

Yeah, I got a bunch of legendaries recently that I havn't even posted. Since they were effectively getting rid of GvG, I opened a bunch of packs with gold I had been saving up. I think they increased the drop rate of legendaries in there since it was essentially going wild only at this point. I will post them when I get a chance to make an updated list (off top of the head Malorne, Troggor the Earthinator, Foe Reapper 400, Mirmiron's Head... I think one or two more as well... opened about 20 packs so as I said, either I got REALLY lucky or they changed the drop rate).

So people like me who have bought every expansion, what are your plans for your 'obsolete' cards?

Wild seems like it will be a joke, almost like a tavern brawl. And I don't want to ever see a secret paladin again. So I'm thinking I'll just dust all my naxx and gvg cards.

Given that, by my math, it seems like if you DE the old content and hoard gold, then once you have a reasonably complete classic collection you pretty much can "keep up" just by dailies, I will likely be dusting my old stuff.

Over the ~18ish months I've played, I spent about $100-120, and that has me at a complete enough collection I can play any of the 'meta' decks and some of the off-the wall ones too. Not every card but 'enough'. Now it seems that if I DE, I pretty much can play the game in the same way indefinitely, without spending more money, as long as I'm willing to commit to standard and DE my old stuff.

I have spent little gold since TGT (other than purchasing LoE wings) A few extra TGT packs for the first few weeks, then I was hoarding for the inevitable adventure (which turned out to be LoE.) Well, I had well over 3500g by then, and now well over 7k awaiting the new set. So I can buy quite a few packs of the neq set from gold. DEing the old sets will net a pretty big pile of dust (9k ish) to go with my already healthy reserve (after DEing the gold cards from rank 5 chest end of this month, should be just under 4k).

That's a lot. Certainly enough that I won't have to spend money on Hearthstone in the foreseeable future and still maintain a complete enough collection to play the decks I find fun. I think they got standard in a pretty good place from this standpoint. You pretty much need some up front cost to get into it (or an enormous time investment F2P, like 12-24 months,) but once you're "caught up" you can stay at that level without spending anything... as long as you're willing to commit to standard by DEing what shifts out of standard and into wild.

Same, I'm keeping all the GvG and Naxx cards. I have a feeling Blizzard will start making the Brawls such that the best decks that week require Naxx and GvG cards, to discourage people from dusting the sets and indirectly increase the cash sales of the new set.

Just looked at the Naxx cards and wow were they good all around, I think the only truly trash card released was Anubar Ambusher. Even Nerubar Weblord can be decent from Shredder and Maexxna from Webspinner or Ram Wrangler has won me a few games.

Also, I used Maexxna in a few of my decks for beating heroic bosses 🙂. Who knows, maybe in the future we get a new Priest Power Word spell with the text from Stoneskin Gargoyle... Love using a buff priest deck to beat heroic bosses.

Also, I don't need the dust yet since I have 25k+ dust stored and another 17k potential if I disenchant my golden cards.
