How do you spend $600 and not get enough dust to make all the cards you really need? Were they all spend on 0-3 arena runs?

Eh maybe it's just bad pack openings. I've spent a similar amount on the game. I've opened nearly 700 packs and I'm still missing nearly half the legendaries still, albeit I do have like 16k dust sitting around.

Which is almost 1/4 of the legendaries you are missing in dust....

Yeah, I don't get the people who spent that much on this game. I mean, I have spent ~$40, but that is where I have been trying to hold the line. I will say I have gotten a good amount of game time/entertainment for the money I have spent on the game.

I have about 1k dust (been saving up for making another legendary, probably a warlock class legendary, but might get something else, maybe the +5 magic damage dragon since that works with mage, rogue, priest, druid and shaman, assuming you can get it to survive, but combo with Emperor and you might even have several 1 and 0 mana cost damage spells and it will be nasty).

I have all the cards I need to make any viable deck. I just don't have all the legendary cards. That was my initial goal when I first started playing the game before the expansions. I just wanted to collect them all but it became too much when I hit 300$ and still didn't have all the legendary cards. With the expansion out, I figured I'd spend a similar amount and leave it at that. I have 9k dust left over. If I spend the last remaining dust, I'd still be missing around 10 legendary cards. I shouldn't have spent so much honestly. I should have stopped at 200$ because after that mark, you're only paying for dust since all the cards will be repeat cards.

Yes, but not all the legendary cards. I'll still have around 10 unaccounted for legendary cards if I spend all of my dust. I believe it takes between 450 to 500$ to get all legendary classic cards. It'll require the same amount just for the GvG expansion. After a certain point, you start to get the same legendary cards over and over again. Disenchanting legendary cards are worth less then actually finding them in a pack. Buying a 60 pack and having to disenchant everything gets you around 4500 to 5k dust. Also, I never disenchant my gold cards. If I did, I might have all the legendary cards by now but they're shiny, so I keep them. 😀

If you want to collect all the cards it's going to cost you but you don't need all the legendaries to play. I would say only about half are really useful with maybe another 10 that's situational. Now that you hit your limit moneywise, just play the game and let the cards come naturally. Use your dust on the ones that your decks need.

You need to use class specific removal (Hex, Poylmorph, etc.) or a Big Game Hunter. Of course he spawns the Boom Bots as a battle cry which is why he is so powerful. The other strategy is if you can't beat them join them and run Dr. Boom yourself which is what 90% of the decks seem to do.

Thanks for the priest deck advise. I'm considering going with a Priest deck or Warlock. With Warlock how useful are the legendaries? Lord Jaraxxasus seems great but Mal'ganis I've only ever seen with voidcaller and even with that combo I've still been able to pretty easily stop him. I'm leaning toward Warlock just because it seems a more viable option for competitive play.

Arena wouldn't be the best way to learn the game since you would be limited the cards you get and you wouldn't know how to pick them properly. Start off by playing solo vs the AI until you unlock a bunch of the basic cards. Then build a deck with those cards and play under casual. Then you can tweak your decks as needed and add cards as you get new packs.

It is pay to win in every TCG and boring. It is the same crappy flavor of the month decks. Arena takes some thought process and (as it does in Magic) because you have to build a deck based on random choices.

The issue is I dislike paying for Arena. The risk vs reward simply isn't there. You don't get the cards like you do in MTG (you "purchase" the equivalent of the packs). In Arena, you get little to nothing. You don't get enough gold to play again unless you get a certain number of wins, which isn't realistic. Go 3 and out and you're done. Money gone.

I've spent roughly $80 since beta through today and get to rank 5-7 each month when playing in spare time. What you need to do is find the deck you want to play, build it, and stick with it. Having all the legendaries is stupid. Half of them are unplayable, a quarter of them are extremely meta calls, such as Harrison Jones, and the other quarter are useful. Pick a deck, build it, play it, learn it, and own with it.

I never play arena btw and I have nearly all cards that are needed to build most top decks.

Twilight Drake is more common in decks that focus on large hands (i.e. Hand Lock), because it synergizes with large hands -- gains +1 health per card in your hand, otherwise it's a 4/1.

The only taunts with a Divine Shield (by default) are the Annoy-o-Tron (2-cost 1/2) and the Sunwalker (6-cost 4/5). Annoy-o-Tron probably gets far more use than Sunwalker just because it synergizes with Mech decks. I tend to see more people use the Sludge Belcher as a medium-cost taunt over the Sunwalker.

It's hard to say what's truly a common card since card usage depends heavily on the deck's play style. However, I would say that removal-oriented cards tend to see more universal play than anything. Even in a fast, aggro deck you may need a way to remove your opponent's troublesome minions to ensure that yours stay alive.

Twilight Drake was for a time seen a lot when people were trying out dragon decks. Now is only seen in handlock, where it is an irreplaceable card.
Sunwalker (6 mana, 4A/5HP, Taunt, Divine Shield) is a good card, I run him instead of Sludge Belcher when I'm facing too many Grim Patron decks because Sludge Belcher is a huge liability in that matchup in the later game. Also requires to be attacked twice for execute.

By regular I assume you mean non legendaries. That totally depends upon the decks you are playing but I'll list the neutral cards you typically see in multiple deck types these days:

Well lets face it, Emperor is probably the single most mana efficient card in the game. In just about any deck, you will very likely have at least 2-3 cards in your hand which will recoup 2-3 mana from the playing Emperor as well as give a 5/5 card on the board, which the opponent will have to deal with (at a minimum silence unless they want to give you yet another 2-3 mana back from the card again). And if you happen to have even more cards in your hand when you play it, that is even more mana back. If you had a full hand when you played it, the card gave you a net gain of +3 mana over the cost of the card itself as well as putting a 5/5 on the board.

Defender of Argus is an essential card for warlocks, both zoo and handlock.

Enhance-o-mechano and micro machine are terrible cards lol (although fun), I disagree about them being essential.
Yeti has basically disappeared as well, not even druids run it anymore.
Piloted Sky Golem is fun but again, not essential, it's not needed in any deck, there's better cards at it's mana cost, basically at 6 mana, you want to be running sylvanas and emperor t for most classes. It also trades poorly with only 4 health.

I can't tell you how many games I have won from Enhance-o. If you run a zoo deck it is absolutely essential as you will gain essential windfury, shields, and taunts all from a single card, allowing your zoo to live longer (shields), do more damage to enemy character (windfury) and protect your character (taunt) all of which are things that zoo decks typically lack and fail to be able to do.

Micro Machine is an essential card for Priest decks. Combined with your +health spells and healing power, it is a foe to do some devistating damage (until it gets silenced, but it still forces a silence out against the one character that silences are essential to stop a 1 hit monster from appearing).

I don't like playing constructed. It is lame and boring. Draft tournaments are far more fun and enter in some randomness. If I only want to play Arena (which costs money to enter and gives no rewards unless you win a certain high number of games), it is just ridiculous. If I do a draft tourney for MTG, I get to keep the cards I draft.

I am totally ftp so I pretty much just play what I happen to get. I will build a deck around a few good cards and add to it as I go, buying packs when I get enough gold from quests.

I will craft some cards every once in a while to fill out some decks. I am also a collector, so I am hesitant to dust anything. It can be frustrating at times since I don't have a lot of good cards, but I wind up creating some funky decks that are pretty fun.

I happened to get 2 iron sensei so I run a mech rogue a lot that I find to be REALLY fun to play. It is very luck based, sometimes I get crushed, other times I will dominate. It is very weak in AOE/card draw, but is fairly fast. Enhance-o has been pretty awesome in this deck. I am trying out Jeeves, seems to have helped for when I get low on cards. Need to craft a micro machine still to add to it, slowly tuning it.

I've been playing for a while now. Have a pretty large collection of cards with several legendaries including Dr. Boom and Ragnaros, among others. I enjoy the game, but admittedly don't know much about the specific hand strategies that get thrown around, such as "handlock" and "zoo". Can someone list the strategies and a one or two line comment on how to build them, or direct me where to find a list?

"Zoo" is basically a low cost minion deck in which you spam out as many minions to fill the board as you can (making a "zoo" on the screen). Typically seen with Warlock due to card draw, but sometimes Rogue and Paladin as well. Usually involves having knife-jugglers to get the extra damage when you play a new minion, and will include some minions that spawn other minions when they get damaged/or spell cast/etc (as well as things like Stormwind Champion, Abusive Sargant, timber wolf, etc., that give bonuses to other minions).

Handlock is mainly a Warlock deck (hence the "lock"), but a couple others can play it as well (druid can do it pretty well). It involves cards that have bonuses for having other cards in your hand like twilight drake, and almost all the giants. Basically strategy is to get 8-10 cards in your hand and then play things like a twilight drake such that it will have 8-10 health and be pretty powerful against anyone who doesn't have a silence, and once your character gets damaged enough, things like molten giant are free, and you find yourself facing 3-4 giants on the table as well as with 2 of them getting taunted by a Defender of Argus, and possibly windfury/shielded by enhance-o. And typically once the warlock has taken damage down into the 10's, he will play their class legendary that replaces their character (or similar legendary).

For anyone who cares to ask about which cards are good, just copy the popular decks and base your decisions on which cards are "good" on what you need for them. A bunch of enthusiasts (most of them well paid) spend all their time working that all out for us. Seems more sensible than considering any single card out of context.
