There are several tutorial matches to start with, and then you can play against the AI to start raising your level and begin gaining you basic class set cards. Many of the mechanics will be pretty self explanatory and you won't have enough cards for awhile to really do anything. So when you have an idea of what you reading about when you start looking at guides, just play against the computer using a random deck.

If you're not familiar with TCG at all, I'd go through the tutorial and practice a few rounds against the computer before I'd venture into reading a guide.

I've always been lurking. Been here long before you. I just never post 😉

EDIT: Not a big deal though; all in good fun.

I think I've already lost interest. Yesterday I could have played but chose not to 🙁

I bought a $2.99 pack previously just to support the game though and get that bonus card. I don't mind paying for something that has given me entertainment value.

I had awesome fun with this in the past week. I suck at building decks though, maybe I got to read up some, but I don't really want to do research, I just want to play!

Best way to learn the game and see what suits your playstyle man.
It can be a painful way to learn it be it's the more rewarding.

Yeah definitely, with more time spent I'll know more about what I want/need in a deck. Right now I haven't even tried all the classes yet, maybe played 4 or 5 with only 3 at level 10 or above with full basic decks. I don't really have a lot of time to play so I'm just going to enjoy playing casually when I can, leveling up the different classes, getting a feel of how they play.

I'm most comfortable with Mage but maybe that's because it's the default class I was given in the beginning and I got it to level 10 before I even tried any of the others. Hunter I thought was pretty overpowered early and I got to level 6 without losing once (casual play with basic deck), but then I got bored. Playing Rogue feels pretty much exactly like playing Rogue in WoW, if I don't kill the opponent quickly, I'm doomed.

I did try the Arena once and won the first game easily (and stupidly thought.. well this is going to be awesome!) but then right away got my ass kicked three times in a row 😛

This is always going to be a free-2-play game, right? And you pay money/gold for special cards/arena entry/etc?

It looks semi interesting. I played a lot of MTG back in the day but was discouraged by it's PTW (pay to win) nature. I'm guessing this will be similar.

Looked at the mlg tourney decks just posted for the top finalist. Minimum legendary count was 4, average about 5.5 and at least one had 7.

I'd not label Hearthstone Pay-to-Win but rather Pay-to-have-better-cards-quicker. Cards /= skills in this game but can help you be better.

Those that don't spend a dime will eventually get legendaries and other great cards and WILL get to the same point as the others that paid for those cards. It'll just take more time.

With Daily Quests you can easily grab 1 pack every day or play Arena and hope to do great to get lots of rewards.

I wish there was a way to punish people who delay when they know they're going to lose. I'm winning 25-2 and some jackass just lets the timer go. Happens so often.

Gotta love smacking down legendary-filled decks with a sub-level 10 deck with no epics and few rares. Granted, that'll go away once my MMR gets higher, but presumably I'll have better cards myself by that point.

Don't forget you can craft cards. Collect dust by either winning arena or breaking up other cards. Then get the one card that'll work well for you.

As a cocky 14 year old, I routinely beat guys in their 30's with huge card libraries using my $5 red/green speed deck. it aint always about money (although it sure does help)

i understand the nature of ccg's, but it's just sad that blizz only seems interested in pumping out ptw games :/

some guy reached Legendary (top ladder rank) in about a week spending no money using a deck with no Legendaries

guy has a MtG background though and you have to be good at Arena to be able to quickly build up a card pool

Rush decks are definitely strong enough (or more accurately, hero health is low enough) that you can win games before any of the really impactful legendaries can even make an appearance. And they're mostly composed of basic/common cards with possible exception made for Argent Commander/Arcane Golem and some class specific rares (misdirection, eaglehorn bow, etc).

Yesterday I managed to unleash a nice combo in my only win in Arena with the Warrior.
Damn I suck in the Arena it's not even funny.

I had 4 minions out, played the card that gives +3 attack to all minions, had the 7atk weapon that lose attack instead of durability which was at 5 attack. The other player didn't have taunters out. I also pumped my Hero attack +4 with a card.

I unleashed everything on him and won that way. Only time I felt it was a good win with the Warrior and in the Arena.

I think i'll have to read more about deck building for Arena.

This is why I'm not too concerned about the PTW nature of this game. Might make it easier/quicker for people to be good, but cards are no substitute for actual skill in deck building and strategy.
