i've been experiencing heartburn after certain meals now that i'm back up to fatty weight.

my question is, does the heartburn have anything to do with being a fat peice of shit, or is it more geared towards the food i'm eating?

i had a slice of pizza with sausage, pepperoni, ham and mexican flu pig bacon for lunch. it's been especially heartburny. :(

Ugh, that will give you heartburn wether or not you are fat. Your body needs to produce a lot of acid to decompose all that heavy and greasy meat. You are probably eating a lot more too and grew your stomach, so your body will adapt and produce more acid then you used to, even if you weren't eating a big meal that time.

Just go on a diet and avoid fatty foods and all problems are solved.

Yes heartburn has a lot to do with being a fatty.

Avoid eating certain food like spicy, onions and fats that relax your lower esophageal spincter, which would promote your heratburn

I'm 250 lbs and falling right now and I get heartburn about as regularly now as I did when I was 215 (my minimum) and 270 (my maximum). I'm trying to get back down to the 220-230 range again, which just feels healthier and better, but I'm not expecting it to make me get heartburn less. I do find that not eating regularly enough can lead to it - your stomach produces acid and you need to get some food in it to neutralize it, so I think you might be better off trying to eat small meals and small between-meal snacks. Also, drink water. Try Tums too. Can't hurt.

For the record, a friend of mine has heartburn too, even worse than me, yet he's 145 lbs. One of the skinniest guys I know. He can't gain weight no matter what he does. I told him I wish I could give him some of mine.

BTW 6'2" and 210lbs is not fat. Technically you're at the low end of "overweight" according to BMI, which tends to be less fair to taller people like you. Really, though, BMI's usefulness depends on how muscular you are. If you're 210 yet you're still very weak and don't have much muscle, then maybe you could stand to drop some. If you're muscular, 210 may be the perfect weight or even a little too low.

I had GIRD, my doctor told me time and time again that if I'd lose weight I'd lose the GIRD. At 285 EVERYTHING I ate caused refluxing and heartburn. When I got down to about 200 I stopped taking Aciphex and only occasionally would I get heartburn. Now I'm 180 and I can eat anything and I don't have any symptoms.

In my case weight was the culprit.

As many have pointed out, weight is a possible culprit for heartburn, but so is diet (high fat, for example). Eating healthier, smaller meals, and staying well hydrated as you mentioned - all good steps.

You probably already know this, but just because your friend is skinny at 145 lbs (what height?) doesn't mean he's healthy. He may not have a very good diet, he may not be eating enough, and he may not have good muscular strength or cardiovascular endurance (just two of a couple of fitness indicators). He could change his diet, start exercising, and end up at the same weight, but with more muscle and less fat.

And yes, BMI is inaccurate for many people. Fitness tests and body fat percentage are much better indicators.

Except the problem of being not being able to eat delicious food! :Q

If you are really that female about your weight that +10 pounds = "fatty weight", then maybe it's the foolish stress you are feeling that is causing the heartburn.
I am 6'1" and 240 lbs.

:(

I get heart burn from tomato sauces.

I have problems with heartburn when i'm stressed ... partly due to the fact that my stomach is already unsettled due to stress, and I also tend to eat worse and in greater volume. All adds up to terrible burpukes. :(

Fortunately, I haven't been too stressed since I moved, and got a better job.

Being obese doubles risk of heartburn-related issues.

So, yes, there is a strong correlation. But it isn't a perfect causation, being fat doesn't guarantee having heartburn and being thin doesn't guarantee being heartburn free.

Spicy food is a major heartburn myth. Spicy food doesn't increase heartburn/acid reflux/etc or make those problems worse. However, it does make it FEEL worse. Many people have low-level heartburn and never know it until the spicy food mixes with the acid-burned esophagus. It isn't the spicy food that is the problem. Spicy food just makes you THINK the problem is worse. The underlying problem is the acid in your esophagus and that isn't affected by spicy foods. So, sure, avoiding spicy foods may make you FEEL better, but the acid is still there causing serious problems. Treat the cause, not the symptom.

Nah...I'm "Jabba the Hut" (Boomer the Hut?) fat and I suffer from no heartburn.

Must be someone you ate.

It absolutely has to do with your obesity. Heartburn is called reflux by those not trying to sell you a pill, and obesity is a major cause of it. Certain foods definitely bring it on, but it's your weight that makes it happen as often, and as intensely as it does.
