Howdy,

I want to be able to track how many calories I burn during a workout. I don't know anything about heart rate monitors...

I know the instructor has something she wears like a watch. I'm not sure if this something where you wear the chest strap thing which talks to the watch or if there are kinds where the watch type can track your heart and everything by itself.

I don't want anything fancy or expensive but don't know what options there are. All I want is something that can track my heart rate and turn that into calories burned during a workout.

Can anyone recommend anything for me? Or recommend anything to stay away from?

Thanks.

What kind of workout(s)?

You can get a decent basic heart rate monitor for $50-100. Polar is the king of heart rate monitors but Timex, Nike, Reebok, Garmin, etc also make them. Personally, I use a Garmin 305 which also is a GPS and it's great for running.

Note, I have always used chest strap hrms but I know there are strapless ones.

Group exercise classes. Boot Camp style and a Kickboxing type. Not weight lifting or anything like that.

I have a polar with the pod thing that you put on your shoe to track your speed and distance.

I'm happy with it but it's quite expensive
