Who uses them? whats the best one out there? any recommendations?

Nik, don't point me to google, i've already done a search, im looking for anything else that google hasn't already told me.

anyways...i want one primarily for running, but would like the option to stick it on my bike and have it calculate speed/distance as well...and the download function of the polar S series are great, but ridiculously expensive...so any other recommendations?

I have Polar S720i ...

It's awesome. I use it on my mtn and road bike. For road I have cadence sensor ... I got it because of the cycling features as well as temp and altitude.

It's worth the $ IMO.

I have one that's a watch with chest strap..

For more accurate, get the one with chest strap..

If you run at the gym, just get the chest strap. most of the machine have the receiver that is compatible..

I think mine is Reebok.. works great..

Garmin Forerunner 301

GPS + HRM, FTW!

That was the wife's birthday present to me this year. It's great for running and cycling (you can have different settings for each, BTW). About the only thing it doesn't do well is mapping -- namely it doesn't have any maps on it.

I know that it has been a month, but I just wanted to say that I haven't had any problems with any of the Polar models that I have owned and used over the years.

If you already purchased a heart rate monitor, which one did you get and where did you order it from?
