any tips? I need to start eating healthier (ie: less take-out, fewer frozen dinners), but I really hate cooking... it's not even the cooking I hate as much as it's having to clean up all the dishes used in the cooking process :(

Keep doing it, eventually you'll be able to use one or two dishes max when cooking. Before you start cooking run some soapy water into the sink, then when you're finished using a utesil, swipe it through the water and rinse it off...
With practice and good planning you can dramatically decrease your dish use and reduce what's left to clean up. If it's just you, eat out of one of the preperation dishes or use paper plates.

Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice box dinners.

The frozen Trader Joe's dinner's are much better IMO.

Are they more expensive? I've never tried them but they probably are a lot better. The reason I recommended LC and HC is because they're very affordable, especially when they go on sale - I've seen them for $1 a box once. Didn't last long, though...

yes they are more expensive.

being a health conscious bachelor I virtually live off Gortons frozen cooked fish filets during the week. 5.5 minutes in the microwave, serve witha salad = perfect dinner. in 10 mins.

I have a cooking website that I've done nothing on for like 2 years:

http://www.hackerfood.com/

I'll put up a recipe submission system if there's some interest...yay/nay?

I started eating healthy last week, Here is what I basically eat every day

Breakfast: 1 glutamine pill so I don't getthe shakes from low blood sugar

Lunch: Chicken breast cold cuts on whole wheat bread, no mayo or cheese. You can add some lettuce & tomato if you like.
OR GNC Mealplex meal replacement shake (vanilla is excellent)

Afterwork snack: a piece of plain toast and a piece of fruit

Dinner: Pasta with sauce from a Jar (I like Victoria's or Joey Pots and Pans brand $4 a jar)

Word.

I make about 3 or 4 days worth of chicken at a time and just nuke what I need when I am ready to eat it. I also make a weeks worth of oatmeal pancakes and freeze them as well as some crustless veggie quiche cups (stole those ideas from some Southbeach diet book).

just wondering how long you plan on eating like that...that's taking it to the extreme IMO.

Labor day. I want to get that 6 pack in before winter.

It doesn't seem unhealthy to me. I allow myself one "cheat" meal on Friday for lunch so it's not too bad.

I also take a multi vitamin and a flax seed oil gelcap after my snack.

I'm thinking about adding 1 hard boiled egg and an additional piece of fruit to my dinner.

Pre-packaged rabbit food (raw vegetables), sandwiches without gobs of mayo, adult cereals, and disposable utensils.

Soy MIlk.
Brown rice and beans in a rice cooker.
Chopped chinese veggies stir-fried with safflower oil.
Lots of fruits.
Save the meat, chicken and fish for the weekends.

Have a crock pot? Get some chicken breast and barbeque sauce. Toss it all in there together and let it cook all day. Easiest good tasting meal ever.

Learn the art of the baked potato.

Coat the potato lightly in canola oil. Sprinkle with salt. Put in a 350f oven on the rack for 1-1 1/2 hours.

Put butter, pepper, chives, and whatever strikes your fancy in it and you have dinner.

the chili is hardly healthy, and the baked potatos there pack a ton of calories. aside from the salad, its hardly healthy.

Chicken and lunch meats.

I eat a lot of sandwhiches and burgers. Whole grains in bun, sliced bread and roll form. You can pile deli sliced meats with lettuce, tomatos, cucumbers, bean sprouts and have a good meal. With skinless chicken, you can make and eat in burgers, or cut them and make sandwhiches with them.

Bake some chicken in stewed tomatos and eat it with pasta.

Not exactly the healthiest, but well, it doesn't taste like crap (to me) and I can keep eating it.

The chili is healthier for you than their Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, which is what many people (at least it seems that) get from Wendy's... and the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger is healthier than many fast food sandwiches.

According to their website, the chili has 220 calories, the caesar side salad has 260, the potato has 320, and a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger has 370.

I'd personally spring for the chili + side salad. That's better for you than most other foods at any fast food restaurant.
