I'm not really in need of a diet per say, but I am looking to get my body healthier, without going overboard and sacrificing all the yummy things.

Background on me.

5'10 170 pounds. Generally skinny, my area of concern is the belly. By no means am I fat, but I certainly have a little extra meat there. I figure if I can cut 5-10 pounds from my stomach, that would be perfect. From what I understand sugars contribute greatly to stomach weight. So I've made steps to cut sugars from my diet. (No more cola's, I only drink 0 sugar 0 calorie gatorade. I've also cut out eating of candy, for the most part. )

I am moderately active. I'm a hyper person by nature, so I'm always jumping around and being active. I also run usually 3x a week. That combined with general playing with my dogs and stuff. During certain times of the year I play soccer 1-2x a week. I am far less active than I'd like to be, but I also have a lot of responsibilities right now, so that keeps me busy.

Now general diet concerns. I want to get as healthy as possible, but not be ridiculous. One problem is that I am allergic to fruits. (Although I love them) so that makes it difficult for me to eat some of the more healty foods. (I am also allergic to lettuce, so salads are out).

So, what are some foods I should be targeting? Anything specific I should avoid?

Start by reading the fat loss sticky. It should answer most of your questions.

You cannot spot reduce. That is, you cannot selectively lose fat from your stomach or some specific part of the body. All you can do is create the conditions for weight loss (as described in the fat loss sticky) and then your body will decide where the fat comes from. In general, you'll lose weight evenly from all over your body. However, most people have specific spots that hang onto more fat than others (usually stomach & love handles for guys, butt & thighs for girls). There is nothing you can do about that, but if your body fat percentage gets low enough, those areas will lose fat as well.

You're allergic to every single type of fruit? And every single type of lettuce?

Fresh fruits, yes. As far as I can tell, all fresh lettuce as well. If its cooked/processed it is fine. For instance, Applie Pie is fine. If I eat an apple though.... oh dear.

Bizarre - I know plenty of people that have allergic reactions to individual types of fruit (strawberries are common), but all fruit is a new one on me. Apples, bananas, watermelon, cherries, blueberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, all of them? Also, any idea what about fruit you are allergic to? Fructose?

Anyways, you can still eat a great diet by just focusing on more veggies. Salads certainly aren't the only way to eat them: you can eat them raw, steamed, boiled, stir fried, in soups, stews, etc.

Allergic to all raw fruits and veggies?

I dont think that is even possible.

Have you tried organic or hydroponically grown fruits and veggies?

Also what kind of reaction are you getting from it?

Start like Brikis mentioned with cooking them.

I can understand several different fruits and veggies but all of them seems pretty far fetched. Maybe you can go see a doctor and have them run an allergy panel because something like this seems pretty serious.

Are you allergic to the fruit itself or pollen? Try washing the fruit properly before consuming.

Also, get it checked out. If it's not pollen, then I don't see how you could be allergic to ALL fruit.

Yeah, you should definitely get a thorough allergy test done at your doctor's office. If you're not allergic to ALL fruit, then you may still have some valid, tasty options. Perhaps you should integrate cooked fruit into savory dishes as well, if they don't give you problems. Personally, I use raisins, apples, and cranberries relatively frequently in my crockpot stews. They add a bit of sweetness that is delicious.

Feel free to ask any questions that you have after reading the fat loss sticky.

I tried organic, no good. All fruits, as far as I know. Apples, Bananas, Cherries, Watermelon (bad), Tomatoes, etc.... everything I know of as well as lettuce. The lettuce reaction isn't to bad, but it does seem to be more severe if the lettuce is more fresh. For instance, a few bites of a caeser salad from olive garden will illicit a much worse reaction than some lettuce from taco bell.

As far as what happens, basically a throat swolling up thing. It's itchy/scratchy and a bit swollen. Its VERY uncomfortable, but I doubt its life threatening. To be honest, when I was a kid I didn't even realize. I just thought thats what happened when you eat watermelons or fruit. Not sure when I realized that I was actually allergic. Maybe its when I could only have a few bites of an apple without being bothered by it while most other people could eat many apples.

I've always considered getting an allergy test done, out of curiosity more than anything, but never got around to it.
