headset for traveling

I'm going to be traveling extensively for a period of 10 weeks next summer.

I work remotely and sometimes need to take telephone calls while on the move. Most of these calls are via VoIP and would be via my Android phone or via my laptop/netbook.

I am curious what options there are for headsets for noisy situations. I know there are plenty of noise-canceling headphones, but what about microphones? Are there are highly directional microphones that are better at only picking up your voice and not ambient noises? If I am in a busy train station or along a major highway, I'd prefer to have as little problem as possible both hearing and being heard.

Of course, I'd also want something semi-portable, so this complicates the situation.

Any advice?

Your easiest/cheapest solution to this issue is to not use headphones but instead use iems. The ones that actually go into your ear canal instead of the ones that just hang there. They will give you the best amount of sound isolation and are more easily transported.

As for the microphone you are on your own.
