I have not seen this information anywhere and need help. I have a unique situation, well...maybe not unique but enough so that I don't see anyone else with a solution.
I have a PS3 and Xbox 360 hooked up via HDMI to a high end receiver that then outputs the video to my TV. I want to get a good headset for late night gaming but don't want surround from a headset (I find stereo to sound better).
So why do the good stereo headsets use analog connections and will I be able to somehow use HDMI + analog at the same time? None of the documentation from the manufacturers have any information about this. I do notice the Astro A40s use optical but the problem is I have no optical port on my Xbox system since I simply run HDMI.
What is the solution? Just use the cheap Microsoft headset along with my speakers? That leaves out my PS3. I know the PS3 can use dual connections at once as turtle beach has this as the recommended way to connect but for the Xbox they only show analog, not HDMI. Further I would not mind if it also worked for PC. I was looking at the Sennheiser U320 because it works across all platforms but again, analog connections. I do understand analog for stereo but how can I run HDMI out for my TV but use my headset instead of HDMI for the audio? Is this possible on the xbox 360(I know the PS3 allows this as I used to use HDMI video and optical audio until I upgraded my receiver)?
Also is there such a thing as an adapter that allows a 3.5mm microphone connection to fit the Xbox mic port on the controller? Such as if I were to get a high end set of headphones with no mic and add a separate mic to it.
