Thanks to the heads-up from compuwiz1:

Thread in FS/FT Forum

Apparently an email is being sent out from someone alledging to be from Kaypro Support (Kaypro.com). The poorly-written email includes a link to a form on kaypro.net. The kaypro.net domain name was registered on Saturday, Feb. 17 which is one of the things making this email stink of scamination.

While I'm sure that many, if not all, of us in these forums might not fall for this, I know several people who would and it's not worth the trouble.

Kaypro.com is legit. Kaypro.net looks to be a scam similar to the paypal scheme set up not too long ago where a doofus set up a site nearly identical to Paypal's in order to get people to enter their personal information.

UPDATE
The right people have been notified, the domain will be taken down, the FBI will investigate, etc. I recommend using this example to reiterate "being cautious" to your friends/relatives.

I think Mr. Heywood Jablowme of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. just "registered".

Back in July Kaypro.com had the Voodoo 5 5500 for like $100 less than anyone else on Pricewatch and I tried ot order one. Of course they said it was gone. That's the only contact I have ever had with them. What would the next mistake be? "Oops we left our e-commerce server open and your CC info was taken by Russians."

You won't believe how many people will be stupid enough to "re-submit" their info to them. It reminds me of this scam I saw on TV. These criminals made a fake card accepter for an ATM and said something to the extent of "We are trying out a promotion for <Bank name here>. Please insert your card into our slot and go through the process like you would normally go through ... " There were plenty who fell for it. The crooks got their ATM card number and their PIN number and got away with a lot of cash.

I got this one as well, no way I was putting in any info. This one just screamed "SCAM!". Keep it up at the top for those people that don't check up on these types of emails.

Oh really?

- It redirects you to kaypro.com AFTER taking your information

- Kaypro.com uses ASP for their pages, not HTM. There's no kaypro.com/form.htm

- Form uses cgi-bin from kaypro.NET .. I can't tell where the form is submitted to

Timid, it has links to kaypro.com and redirects you there -after- you enter your contact info and/or credit card number. I could always be wrong, but methinks this has got scam written all over it.

Look at when kaypro.net was registered. Feb. 17, 2001... 2 days ago. When did we start getting the emails? The one I got was dated on the 18th, 1 day later. Here's the text of the email:

================================================
Dear Customer,

During this week we have problems with our Customers DataBase
& we might loss some of our Customers information. So we ask
you to fill this form:
http://www.kaypro.net/form.htm

Best regards,
Kaypro Support
================================================

It's not that hard to redirect to another site after you've processed a form. It only takes 1 line.

If you view the source on that page it looks like it was generated by Microsoft Frontpage. I seriously doubt an e-commerce company uses frontpage to make their web pages. If you look at the source for kaypro.com you will see no mention of Microsoft front page.

Oh, BTW, this is DEFINITELY a scam. I never even heard of Kaypro before, never been to their website and I got the email asking for me to resubmit my info, so let there be no doubt...SCAM!

PS - I just spammed them with about 50 forms. I suggest everyone do the same.
