Headphones: Sennheiser PXC300, or...?

Been thinking lately about taking the leap into some good headphones.

My criteria:
- Has to be portable (I commute to work)
- Need noice-cancellation (my commute involves buses and subways)
- No ear-canal or in-ear phones, to me they're very uncomfortable
- Comfortably snug, but NOT vise-like. I've got a big head so I'm hoping I can find good headphones that won't super-vise-grip my head.

Sennheiser seems to be a good brand that I keep seeing pop-up, after checking the hot deals forums it looked like the PXC-250 fit my bill nicely and when a good deal comes around they can be had for well under $100.

After looking a little more, I see that Sennheiser has a successor(?) to the PXC-250 in the PXC-300...At about 2x the cost.

Is the PXC300 2x times better? Should I just get the PXC250? Is there another branch I should also consider?

Thanks!

I have some Beyer Dynamic DT231 headphones that seem to fit the bill... I like em. Not exepnsive either. Like $50 or something.

Thanks for the reply AA, the DT231 looks like a nice set...But they'd be too bulky for commuting. I'll have to check them out anyway as my headphones for the PC could also use an upgrade.

I thought about getting sound canceling phones for a while, but after asking around I found that most people hardly noticed the noise reduction. I finally went with some nice in-ear phones (which I know aren't an option for you). Good luck with whichever you decide to go with.

Even if I wanted the HD497, I'm sure that being noncollapsible they're probably meant to fit the 'average' sized head...Which mine ain't (I've got a big head).

They look pretty sweet though.

I've got a big head, and my pair of Senn 280Pros fits nicely. They arent noise cancelling, but they are closed and supposably reduce outside noise by up to 32dB. You might consider them a little too large, though.

I picked mine up for ~$85 shipped.
