headphones making popping noise

I got a pair of Plantronics Gamecon 780 headphones for Christmas.

they're usb headphones, and have a dolby 7.1 surround option.

For the most part they're pretty amazing, they sound great, but, when Playing Everquest 2, they make an occasional popping noise from the right earpiece.

It only happens in Everquest 2. I've tried it with general computer use, playing music through multiple programs, and with many other games, none of which ever give the popping noise, only Everquest 2.

I've tried different sound settings in the EQ2 game, including just the headphone option, dolby 7.1, 7.1 speakers, pretty much all of them, still makes the noise, quite frequently too. I've also tried it with and without the dolby 7.1 enabled on the headphones, and it doesn't help.

I've also tried all my USB ports to see if that was the issue, and it changes nothing.

It seems completely random, even if I'm just standing there in game doing nothing, or if I'm playing heavily, it doesn't change the frequency of the pop. It happens every 20-40 seconds or so.

Anyone know what may be causing this?

Also, is it harmful to the headphones?

Thanks!

I've tried every fix I was able to find on Google about noise in usb headphones, but so far no luck.

One person suggested a usb 3.0 port would solve the problem, but I can't find any documentation that my headphones require one, I also don't have one so I'd have to buy a card er something. Could that actually work even though its not required for the headphones?
