Headphones gone! TIME FOR NEW ONES! HELP!

Wow, it's been a while since I've been to this forum... I miss it... Anyway:

My Plantronic Audio 90's just broke (it broke before, except now it's unusable) and now in the market for new headphones. I don't want gaming headphones, just headphones that sound nice. There are several headphones that I already have in mind, but I'm having trouble deciding whether or not I should dish out a load of money for a good pair or just a few bucks for a decent one. With this post, I hope to hear some feedback on some of the headphones that I'm considering (as well as some advice to which price range I should be looking into). Well here they are!

Koss KSC-55 $15 (kakaka)
Sennheiser HD457 477 497 (most inclined toward 477 for its price)
Grados SR60/80
Sennheiser HD580 (I want, but that's all my money)

Yeah, those are pretty much the choices. Please leave feedback if you ever had/have one of these.
For the most part, I'll be using it on my computer to listen to music, movies, etc. The reason I want good ones is to blast some classical music when I'm drunk. lol... I'm also considering using it for my MP3 player if it ever gets here, it's just I don't know if I want to have to carry huge headphones with me everywhere I go. Anyway, thanks!
 
Check out Koss PortaPro's. They retail for 50$ish, but can be found for mid 30$. Theses are the best headphones that I have used for the price. I use these on the go, and my Grado 125s when Im listening to music at home. BTW, not the portapro2's. Just PortaPro.

BTW, last i looked Amazon.com had the cheapest price. Otherwise I think I have a 25% off coupon direct from Koss.
 
Id say Grado SR80 or Senn 280. The Grado SR80 are great sounding. I would suggest buying the 'plush pads'. They are definitely easier on the ears than the stock pads. I am listening to them right now, lol.

I also have the Senn 580. They are too pricey and requires a good amp to drive them get great sound.
 
Wow...what a wide price range. I would highly recommend Sennheiser PX100 for eeryday computer use. They are lightweight, inexpensive , portable/foldable (case included), great sound, low impendance (dont need a lot of power).

Senn hd 580 would be great too!

Grados are a nice headphone, my only concern is comfort. grados sit on your ear and that makes lt use uncomfortable.
 
Grados do not hurt; they're the most comfortable of my headphones. Simply bend the headband so they rest lightly on you. The Sennheiser 280s seriously clamp on your head, and can be very uncomfortable at first.
 
580s are very nice, but require an amp to reach their potential. The 280s are indeed tight, after a few hours I'm ready for a break. They sound good, but very laid back. If you listen to rock/metal a lot, you're probably better off with Grados. The sr-60s are supposedly one of the best price/performance ratio phones you can buy.
 
I have sennheiser hd 280 pro. I agree that it took a little while to get used to the feeling of them, but now I'm totally used to it and like the secure feeling. I wanted closed cans and they suit me well.

I was going to tell you that ecost has them on sale for $60, but I guess that ended yesterday, they're back up to $100.
 
Hmm... you guys seem to be suggesting the closed headphones the most. I heard that open is better, but I don't know...could someone explain to me the difference between those two? Anyway, I'll check out the HD 280's. I listen to a lot of things but I want ones that are best quality for classical... and I hear HD 580 is the way to go. But if I want open or whatever, I'll prolly go with the Grados SR60/80 (depending on whether or not I want to spend the money... and also, what are the differences between the two?).

Open phones don't much block outside noise, and emit noise (ie. those around you will easily hear what you're listening to), while closed phones are the opposite. Again, the 580s are nice phones, but unless you plan on springing for an amp (another $100-$200 at least) to go along with them, don't bother. They'll sound even worse if you try to drive them with a portable player. What's your source when listening to music on your pc, by the way?
 
If you buy headphones that require an amp, you can buy inexpensive cMoy amps on ebay for $50-$100.

I have the HD580s and they're alright, but they're not worth the money unless you have an amp.
 
As you can tell, Grado SR60/SR80s are highly recommended, particularly since they can be adequately driven by portables. Now, if it wasn't for the Alessandro MS1s, then I'd also tell you to pick up the S60/80.

The MS1, however, is a moderately tweaked Grado SR125, easily powered by portables yet shows improvements when connected to an amp. Alessandro scales Grado's well-known highs down a bit, making it more neutral sounding (resulting in a less harsh high-end, a drawback in Grado's Prestige series (60/80/125, even the 225s and 325s!) while retaining the orchestra-like Grado sound. The best part is that they are on sale for $75, with free shipping. You can't better cans for the price mate.

The cans are not on sale for $75, sadly. The website is misleading; they offered me a set of demo cans for $75, but said new would be $100.

Yup - heard only good things about these and the slightly lower grade HD555's.

I myself after much thought have decided to get me the HD595's. 🙂
