headphone suggestions

I am looking for a nice pair of headphones, not audiophile quality but not cheap either.

The caveat is that they must cover the ear completely (not earbud) and the connection between the phones cannot be on top of the head. I remember those crappy sony headphones that wrapped around the back of the head... does anything like this exist that completely covers the ear and has better sound quality?

No, because it would just hang on your ears and would be too heavy (and thus uncomfortable) for it to work. The closest thing would be Koss KSC-75s with the ear clips, but they're supra aural. I believe some people have stuck those inside earmuffs, but thats about the closes you're going to get I think.

Yup, it would be too heavy. Otherwise it would be a clamp on your skull to hold full-ear cups on your head like that.

Another closest thing could be Audio-Technica A500/700/900s, where the headband doesn't go all the way across your head. It has little wingpads that sit on the sides of your head. I'm not sure if this will work for your purposes, though.

I think the Sennheiser HD25s can be set up to have the band go behind your head, but I'm not sure.

I also just remembered Koss SportaPros. These probably have the same drivers as the PortaPro/KSC75, and have a configuration that go behind your head. They don't look too pretty, though...
