Headphone stands

To those of you with headphones, what do you use to hold them, if you use anything at all? I'm looking to get a stand or make one but I'm a little worried about hanging them.

I have a pair of Audio Technica A700s. These

edit: here's a better picture of what I'm hanging them off of. Link

I bought a wire banana holder but I'm don't like how the headphones hang by the wires. Is it hurting them to hang like that? Does anybody else do it with no problems? I haven't been keeping them hanging on it.

Then I thought about maybe making a fake head, but then I figured it would be putting constant strain on them as if I was wearing them 24/7 and they might get loose, and the head would take up just as much room as the headphones laying on the desk.

go to the hardware store and buy a 2 dollar hook, drill a hole in a desk or shelf and just hang it from the band. you never hand headphones by the wires. the connections are delicate, and failure inside a connector is a bad thing. the outer casing has more stretch than copper inside the cable. and in any case you don't want that kinda force on it.

They don't have a band. If you looked at the headphones you would see what I meant. I'm not talking about the wire that connects to the pc, I'm talking about the 2 that connect the right speaker from the left and go over the head. Both of your ideas would have it hanging from those.

Cold, I doubt that you'll have any problems at all. I have the same headphones and I'm just hanging them from a hook like you are yours and I haven't seen any ill affects on the headphones at all. The headphones themselves don't weigh that much so there isn't much weight being put on the wire anyways. You should be just fine using the hook.

no problem, that is the structure of the headphone... i use to hang mine on anything slightly hook shaped where ever i was using them.

Well there is one other option. I stopped using it because the one I built got busted, I need to build another the hook was a temporary solution.

Here's what you'll need:

1 empty CD/DVD spindle
1 empty glass water bottle (something that's a decent size, i used a Perrier bottle)
1 syringe of epoxy

The build is pretty simple. Apply the epoxy to the base area right around the spindle. Place bottle over the spindle. Let the epoxy dry & harden. You now have a nice stand that isn't holding it by the plastic wires.

the wires above the head are clearly made to take some stress if the headphones were designed that way. that or its some botched engineering.

A little bit pricey but a good basic idea. I'm sure you can get a basic foam head like they use for wig stores and it'll do the same thing for a bit less. Something like this should do the trick just fine.

I do not like dummy heads. They stretch the headbands and compress the earpads further promoting wear on the headphones. Just get a simple banana hanger, they are cheap, work perfectly, and usually available in a few styles.

I haven't actually been able to find a banana hanger anywhere other than the dollar store, and it's just a basic wire one. I might make my own hanger out of some nice wood. I have all the tools needed. (basically just a jigsaw, a drill and some sandpaper)
