I know nothing about headphones but I'm getting really tired of my old Aiwas so I'm looking for a new pair. My budget is $50 but I'd prefer a little cheaper ($30ish), I'm going to be wearing these for long periods of time so comfort is very important. I'm going to be listening to a wide range of music, rock to classical and everything in between. Thanks all.

If you don't mind them being open and superaural...I recommend the Sennheiser PX100's in that price range. They might not look like much but they are the best budget headphone I have ever heard.

these look very good (thanks for showin' me perduery) and are arguably the best bang for buck. The grados have a very high reputation, but I havn't heard much about seinheiser's hd series. Do you have a preference on the type of headphones? I recently made a thread on a similar topic here.Check it out.

I don't really know enough to have any preference, the biggest thing is comfort (I'll be wearing these for 4 hours plus) and obviously sound quality, whatever type of headphones will get those is fine by me.

Sounds like PX100 is your ticket. Also, you might want to take a look at the Koss PortaPro. These babies are the near-equals of the PX100. They look weird, but since you can wear them street-style, they're a little more versatile. If past experience with Koss drivers are any indication, the PortaPro should have the same basic sound signature as the grados - bright clear treble and low, warm, tight bass. Before the PX100 debuted, the PortaPro was considered THE best headphone under $50. They're still at the top, they just share the throne with the PX100, since they both have different sound signatures.

Another vote for PX100. Keep in mind, the cord is a bit short, so make sure your computer is close to where you are sitting.

Concur - but stereo headphone extension cables are available anywhere, even Target and Wal-Mart. :)

Comfort? KSC75: adjust to fit (bendable clips), almost no microphonic noise from the cable, and well within your budget.

KSC75s aren't for everyone. Even if the clips are adjustable, they don't fit very close to the ear, meaning the sound isn't going to be the same every time you put them on. Also, I know after about an hour, the clips start to hurt the top of my ears (no matter what I do to fix it). So, they're nice, but not necessarily the best choice.

Now, if you bought both a KSC75 AND a SportaPro, then used the sportapro band...

I don't really mind superaural vs circumaural as I use both while sitting normally so staying on really isn't a concern.

That said if I wanted to run with the PX100's I would get the version with the sport neckband.
