Headphone recommendation w/ receiver

Just want to get a list of recommended headphones for 80% music, 19% games, 1% movies(thats what 5.1 is for 😉).

Most people that have previously made threads have had more game usage so I am looking strictly from a mostly music sense. They will be used from a Harman Kardon 435 AV Receiver. I don't keep up with headphones, receivers and speakers are enough to read up on day by day 😉. So all you headphone nuts....what are some good recommendations

I currently use Sennheiser PX100's, which are great, but would like some closed headphones with maybe a little better sound quality. $60 is probably my max unless you can convince me otherwise. Thanks guys

Sennheisers are the best. Buy the most expensive your budget will allow, that should do ya pretty well.

I have a pair of the Bose Noise Cancelling phones too, and while I don't normally like Bose stuff they're pretty nice and the noise-cancelling is sweet. They're pretty expensive though.

Pairing up headphones with a receiver is a bad idea.

.....why?

Because many audio enthusiasts do it....I question your sanity....didn't I just help you get into HT?

You are right, you got me into HT. HT is completely different than headphones. Welcome to my arena, check your bags at the door.

Generally the headphone section of most consumer electronics, including the headphone jack of iPods, and most headphone sections of home theatre receivers have the least emphasis in terms of technology and money. If you were HK, why would you put high quality components in the headphone section when you know very few of your customers would even use it?

Open vs closed is a big difference.

Its pretty much a straight pass through...a little amplification, maybe some processing depending on the source....thats all, I really don't see a whole lot going into it. Its not like you are using all 65 watts of amplification, I highly doubt with such little amplification you would get any significant amount of distortion. And they cared enough about headphone users to make it capable of Dolby Headphone, so yes, I think it is something they care about.

I dont' even know if the 280s are going to be around $60 for you.

Senn has a whole new group of models that are new and they're replacing the old ones... I don't really know what the deal is with them.

Pretty much any amplifier + headphone combo from here will be DAMN nice. They have the best stuff...most expensive and exclusive stuff, too!
