I can hear my cd drive start spinning, the mouse moving.. all that stuff... sometimes comes up on my speakers but all the time with my headphones.. any ideas?

Hah! That's not that bad. On my old cell phone, I would drive down that road and all of a sudden my signal would switch to someone else's cell phone converstation. I'd be talking to my family, and then all of a sudden two people are talking on my phone, at each other, and I can talk to them. I'm sure it freaked a couple of people out 🙂

Usually when that happens to me, it's because they volume controls are set to high for either the speakers or on the computer. I suggest trying to balancing the volumes between the two and see if that gets rid of the static.

Umm, what about a ferrite core? I'm not sure if it would help in this situation, but i think you should be able to find your answer if you search on this topic.
