A new declaration from the worlds largest company, if you do not use windows... you do not exist!

MS is going down, it will take some time but they are just too cocky for their own welfare...

<< remember the source... i wouldn't call THE REGISTER reliable for IT news.. >>

Actually, I've heard people say this before.. but the Register has actually been very reliable and much more honest than, say, ZDNet. I have no complaints..

I guess those Microsoft geeks don't get out much. They obviously don't know how Shrek got made:

http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2761566,00.html

The ornery, mud-loving creature morphs into a romantic hero through some of the richest digital animation yet created. Producer DreamWorks SKG gives considerable credit for the performance to another transformation -- animators' use of the free Linux operating system instead of software from the likes of Microsoft Corp. and Silicon Graphics Inc.
.
.

Linux is indeed going Hollywood. Industrial Light & Magic, the San Rafael, Calif., division of George Lucas's production empire that created special effects for Star Wars, says it is preparing to replace nearly half of its 1,300 SGI workstations with a variety of Linux-based hardware still to be decided.

Pixar Animation Studios, which helped bring Walt Disney Co. into computer-generated animation with "Toy Story," is also converting its workstations to Linux. The studio was in the process of switching from SGI technology to Microsoft's Windows NT platform, but shifted to Linux in midstream as it gained momentum and credibility, says Ed Catmull, president and chief technology officer of the Emeryville, Calif., company.

dudes... think PERSONAL PC Market!

its true linux has and is gaining popularity.

but its still not at the point where you can recommend it as the OS of choice to say, ur grandmother or parents is it?!?

the answer is a simple no, unless they are fairly computer savy.

so in effect, the claim is true.

sure maybe something like 75% of ppl here might use it, but come on... walk into a local grocery store, or bank, and ask how many of those ppl use it.

Why don't you jump behind the counter and look at what their computers are running. Hint: Don't do this at the bank!

Some special computer systems in hotels, grocery stores, etc. use Linux.

For home use? Nope, I agree with you there.
