Headlight Bulb

I have an 89 Galant and the headlight burned out. My uncle has changed the bulb 2 times for me, and the bulb keeps burning out. What could cause a headlight to keep burning up?

My uncle isn't around, and I will be doing alot of night-driving this weekend, so I want to change the bulb myself.

I will send some $1 paypal if they tell me which bulb to buy, within a half hour (when the store closes). And if someone could give me some clues as to why the bulbs keep burning out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Check the wiring somewhere.
My dad had a Volvo and the bulb kept burning IIRC, there was something funky with the wiring somewhere IIRC.

Just ask the guy at the auto parts store and he can tell you what bulb to buy. The one I got for my explorer was only like $8.50.

Just go to the damn auto parts store and ask. As for why it's burning out, could be faulty wiring, or the headlight could not be sealing properly and letting dirt/moisture in.

Any 9006 bulb will do. Try not to get the ricey blue bulb type things.

Maybe a short causing the bulbs burning out. Are you touching the bulbs when you put them in? That would do it too.

9006 for low beam. 9005 for high beam. Make sure that you use a paper towel to hold the bulb when installing it. And if you can, use some contact cleaner on the electrical contacts that the bulb plugs into.

Contact cleaner? Hmmm... I don't have any of that. I guess that have it at the auto parts store that just closed.

Oh well, the bulb was only $8, and like the others I expect it to go within 2 weeks. At least this buys me 2 weeks to try to figure out this wiring problem.
