Heading to San Antonio Riverwalk for the weekend

We'll be flying in Thursday night late and staying till Monday with another couple. Other than the Riverwalk and the Alamo, you folks familiar with the area wanna throw out some places to check out/eat/drink? We won't be renting a car and plan on just staying in the Riverwalk area but if there's something "can't miss" I may be able to convince the group. For me specifically, I'd like to find a good sports bar to catch the Super Bowl on Sunday. Someone in my 49er group said Rod Dogs is the 9er Empire Bar but it seems a pretty good distance from where we're at.

Oh man I live in San Antonio but I never go downtown now that I work from home. Favorite place to eat downtown was Cascabel Mexican Patio for interior Mexican dishes but haven't been since the pandemic and since then the original owners sold so I can't personally vouch anymore, though their yelp reviews still look good. They close at like 3PM, which is very common for Mexican places in San Antonio (especially after the pandemic). I liked their pozole, cochinita pibil, tinga, huitlacoche, etc back when I went there regularly. Mole poblano was kind of meh. Only place I can get great mole poblano in the US is my kitchen if I want to spend a day making it. If you want a really touristy Mexican restaurant open at 3AM Mi Tierra is famous for it. Kind of mid but decent. Was funny seeing LeBron cheering Taco Tuesday there after a game. Used to see NBA teams there all the time after games in the 80s through early 90s when the Spurs played at Hemisfair Arena downtown.

EDIT: Crap, Mi Tierra isn't 24/7 anymore after the pandemic either. Kind of kills the whole point of going there unless you're just looking for a Mexican restaurant with crazy crap on the walls.

Nah come in late June so you get the crushing humidity too

August the heat index hardly ever creeps above 113. Air temp only hit 109 maybe three times in August last year

No prob. I didn't plan the trip so I wasn't even sure where we're staying. Found out we'll be at Canopy by Hilton on N. St. Mary's and the in-house restaurant has some of the better reviews on Google. It's called Domingo, so we can check that place out sometime. Weather wise, I'd been keeping an eye out for the last few weeks and as of today it'll be cloudy and chances of rain on a few days, but I think I'm going to opt for shorts and tennies and maybe hoodies the entire time we'll be there. Will pack a few pants just in case.
