Headgear ban at NY amusement park sparks scuffles

"A ban on religious and other head coverings on rides at a suburban amusement park on Tuesday sparked scuffles leading to 15 arrests."

Even the first sentence is unnecessarily inflammatory. How about "A ban on all head gear, including baseball caps, on rides at a suburban ..." But I guess that wouldn't have the social impact that MSNBC was looking for.

Let's re-arrange our society around superstitious, misogynist customs. It's our job to adapt to immigrants. That's why immigrants come here right? More of the same?

Sounds like it got out of control when a cop decided to throw one of the women to ground.

Huh???

The women were offered refunds. But then male and female visitors started to argue among themselves, according to a statement from the county executive's office. Two park rangers who intervened were injured and were hospitalized.

New York's Daily News said one woman, Entisai Ali, began arguing with officers over the head scarf rule, quoting Dena Meawad, 18, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
"The cops started getting loud with her and she started getting loud, too. They pushed her on the ground and arrested her," Meawad said.

If there were signs posted at the entrance to each of those rides that required removal of headgear while on that particular ride then there shouldn't have been any question or dispute over the policy.

It seems logical to me that such signs are required for liability/insurance purposes and should be a common practice at all amusement parks.

I can see a problem occurring though when some customers assume that exceptions to those rules can be made on demand.

I wonder if there are any religions that forbid taking off shoes in public as many people wear sandals at these places and some of the really fun ones where you feet hang out below you have you remove them also.

Same thing for glasses unless you have decent straps.

Newsflash: people can be loud-mouthed idiots regardless of what religion they ascribe to. These people happened to be loud-mouthed idiot Muslims. What kind of idiot thinks they have a right to ride a rollercoaser without following the rules set forth by the company operating it?

Yep, just the other day I was reading about some violent buddhists. Oh wait no I didn't.

Sounds like the Muslims in question were behaving like morons. Sounds like the cops may have overreacted. And it sounds like a lot of the people responding to this are of the bigoted "those damn Muslims" variety.

All in all, society continues to be filled with jackwagons...news at 11 😉

If the immigrants come here, they should adapt to American customs, end of story.

They don't like having to take off their head scarf, then don't get on the ride. It's simple logic. It's like Katt Williams said to the Mexican heckler - if you don't like it, then get to steppin'!

So basically a fight breaks out because the rider operators asked muslim women to remove their head scarves for safety reasons...This racism must stop!!!!

Guess the park must be run by racists and zenophobes....

Well then, the rest of the usual racist and xenophobic slime of these forums sure took the high road and proved there is no hate, fear and contempt for Muslims in America.

"im a moooslim so your rules dont aoply to me" allah ahh-choo!

Who cares if it gets caught in something, aren't they into beheadings?

EDIT: and this new sparkling gem,...
Follow the rules or GTFO. No one gives a shit about your magic hat.

The supporters of your message are your stongest opposition.

LOL the park should ban women with long hair from going on rides too for their safety. Imagine if a woman's hair got caught and scalped her.

It's private property. The rules don't have to make sense to you, they only have to make sense to the owner.
