Headache so bad that i'm throwing up

JEDI

Lifer
This happened yesterday. Felt like I had a concussion, but i didnt hit my head on anything.

I woke up yesterday with a bad headache, which is strange because I rarely have headaches. And when i do, it's mild.

As the day progressed, it got worse till i threw up about 5pm. All i threw up was water. I guess i digested my light lunch. I felt a little better. (I dont like taking pain relievers.)

I went home early, and went to bed.

Woke up this morning feeling ALOT better. I still had a slight headache, but nothing like yesterday.

Not planning on visiting the doctor unless this happens again. I took a full body MRI (head to toe) a couple of years ago. Everything was fine. (ie: it's not a brain tumor)

This happen to you?

Migraine... they happen.

Stress is a big trigger, too much sodium, eating MSG, etc. I'd say you should be ok but if it happens again go get it looked at by a professional.

Yeah, migraines are fun. Just wait around either for the pain to go away, or pass out so you don't have to endure it. Sometimes I get them from certain foods, or when I'm getting sick with something unusual (not a regular cold, something other).

Yes, i have those rather frequently.
That to me sounded like a migraine.
Did you have sensitivity to sound or light or smells? It especially sounds like a migraine to me because it happened right when you woke up.

Sounds like it could be a migraine.

Yup, it's happened to me more times than I care to count.

Turns out MSG was what was doing it to me. I stopped eating ANYTHING with MSG in it and now I haven't had a headache that bad in several years! 😀

Definitely sounds like a migraine. I started getting them a few years ago, they stink 🙁 I've found my migraines are either caused by stress or by food allergies. Make sure you stay on top of your work/school/personal responsibilities and also be careful about what you eat. That's what has helped me the most. Also sleep is a huge and underrated factor, how much sleep are you getting every night and what time do you go to bed?

My son suffers from migraines.

I'd say 80% of the times he gets one, he throws up.

The Dr. prescribed Motrin (IIRC.. I'm trying to picture the bottle in my head...lol)... I don't know if it really helps with the pain, or just knocks him out. 🙂

I used to have chronic migraines when I was a child. I remember sitting in a hot shower crying in pain because of the throbbing 🙁. I never like to throw up, so I made sure I didn't do anything to trigger it off.

If this is your first major headache (and i think this is considered major), you should see a doctor. The vomiting could be significant. Things could change in three years time. How old are you?

oh.. sodium as in NA as in salt (NaCl)?

yeah, the nite b4 I accidently spilled ALOT of salt on my steak when the top came off. i just blew off the salt onto my fries. guess i took in 50x more salt than i normally do.

I have this for my migraines. When I get them (once a month about), I get them BAD. Pop two of these bad boys, go to sleep for 20 minutes, wake up completely headache free.

Yea I get about 6 or less per year. Mine are related to peanuts, if i ever get a migraine, I've usually recently had peanuts, I also cut out MSG because it gives me stomach problems, but that seemed to help me get less migraines.

These days if i get a migraine, I get visual distortions and a mania mood as a precursor, usually something like "I can't read sh!t, everyting is sparkling and distorted! this is AWESOME!!! LOLLLLL."

When I get that its usually sufficient to down 70-100mg of caffine, usually in green tea form. (I don't drink caffine regularly so it has a big effect on me) Then I take tylenol, and go lay down in a dark room, and try and take a nap. I'll sleep 1-2hours and wake up fine, sometimes a bit of pressure pain but nothing thats a big deal.

Before that I used to take Imitirex which worked well, I wouldn't even have to nap, just take one, I would feel the pain come on for about 20min, then it would kick in and I would be fine. Of course, Imitrex is about $20 per pill.

BAD? Imagine having to take Midrin daily, along with 9-14 doses of Relpax monthly, despite taking a daily preventative medicine (Lyrca). I have been suffering from this current round of headaches since the spring of '05. I cannot be exposed to fluorescent light for more then 20 minutes on a good day without it triggering a migraine. I have been seeing several of the top migraine specialists on the East Coast with little success. I am now being classifed as a patient with New Daily Persistent Headache, which is a whole new can of worms.

Migraine  had them my entire life. I went to the hospital on wednesday with one so bad I couldnt see out of my left eye and couldn't keep anything down. I get about two bad ones a month that are normally controlled with Relpax. sometimes they don't touch it tho.

There's a big list of triggers. just google "migraine triggers" and start analyzing what diet and daily patterns. as an example, mine=chocolate, alcohol, dynamic sleeping patterns, stress, dehydration, high sodium intake, preserved foods(lunch meats mainly), 2nd hand cigarette smoke, some cheeses. possibly others.

I saw some people mention tumors, this is also a possibility. sounds like you need to see a physician.

Did you have them that bad before '05?
