head unit

honestly, i'm happy with my stock unit but it doesn't have aux in and i'm tired of using an fm transmitter. i just want a new one that has an aux in jack.

I picked Panasonic. They make a quality deck and it's cheaper. I would say both are pretty close to the same quality.

***Read reviews on the JVC...sounds like something is weird with the Aux In on it too....

aw crap, the panasonic one doesn't come with the installation gear. i have to buy one thats $129.99 or higher to get the harness kits and stuff free. the kit and stuff is like $40...

ok, back to the drawing board then. none of the panasonics around that price range have a front aux in jack. bleh...whats another good company?

installation gear is going to differ from car to car, some will need antenna adapters, some will need amp integration harnesses. finding one for 129 that fits your car will be very hard. i would advise saving up a bit more and get what you want and need, not what you can afford at this moment

i'm not having any problems finding one that fits my car for $129. its finding one that has a front aux input thats hard. and like i said, i'm fine with the stock stereo but it doesn't have a aux in jack. thats the only reason i want to get a new head unit. i'm keeping stock speakers anyway. i don't want to spend much on it because i'm not some ricer or some idiot who blasts my car stereo so it rattles the windows of buildings 3 blocks away.

What about checking into a set of RCA extenders? Taking the AUX inputs on the back and feeding them to the front and mounting them somewhere convenient and out of sight. Should look a lot less tacky than having a set of inputs hooked up to the front and fighting with the cabling.

BTW, my vote goes towards anything Alpine or Eclipse. 😛 (yeah, probably not necessarily in your price range)

EDIT: Cheap deck and you can get the 'optional' AUX input RCA leads for $13 (check the accessories tab on the deck's page)

Spec-wise, the deck is pretty poor. Not gonna lie on that one. SNR is 80dB, which is pretty low. If you're using stock speakers, you should be OK, though. FM sensitivity is 17dBf, so don't expect to get local radio stations for too long if you drive out of town. 😛 For the price limit, it's about as good as you're going to get, unless you buy used.

its just gonna be one 1/8" or whatever stereo jack from the mp3 player to the aux input. i don't understand how running leads from the back will make it less fighting with wires and make it look nice? i don't know anything about car stereos and want to do this as easily as possible.

Actually this will be even better.
Cardomain.com has a 105% price guarranty.

Just click on the 105% and send them the info at soniceletronix and they will send you a link for $95.
Not only you'll save $5, cardomain shipping is about $9 cheaper also.
(Shipping was only $3 to Fla for me vs. $12.
You'll save $14 all together.
Oh and Cardomian will beat that price...I've done it with shaddier merchants and I still got a price match.

Good luck.

$99.99 and comes with free instalation kit.
Should be about $10 for shipping.
LINK

not a very good resellerrating.com rating

Not that it matters since Cardomain will be better but I've purchased from them before and it was fine.
Buying with CC through the net is about as safe as it get.

You can have the 1/8" mini-stereo lead (that splits into a Y-adapter for RCAs) near wherever the source (guessing iPod or other portable) is. This way, you don't have nasty wires hanging from the face of the head unit. Instead, you have something you can tuck away under the dash when it's not in use.

Read some of hte posts.

Bottom line ... for what you want to pay, don't bother asking. Just find something (anything really) that has the features you want like AUX in. Anything you buy in your price range is going to be bottom of the barrel.

what wires are you talking about? there's only going to be 1 wire from my mp3 player to the head unit. when its not in use, it will be unplugged, so there won't be any wires hanging from it. what you want to do will have extra work and extra wires.

Extra work, perhaps - it's just mounting or finding an out-of-sight spot for the RCA plugin lead. 10 minutes max. 1 wire is 1 wire too many to be hanging out. I like a clean install and if you want a ghetto setup, do what IHateMyJob2004 said and read the freaking posts. At $129, no matter what you get, it's trash so take your pick.
