i just installed an alpine CDA-9847 in my jeep grand cherokee limited, and whenever i put a cd/burned cd/mp3cd in, i get no volume, but it can read the discs correctly (songs/artists/folders)...this also happend on a cda-9851, but i thought it was just the HU and returned it....help please either here or link me to a site

thanks

elaborate on you get no volume, when you turn the volume button the numbers dont go up? or just no sound

whats the rest of you system like?

i turn up the volume (up to 25 or whatever), and i still get no sound, not even a hiss from the speakers....

the rest of my system is just the stock infinity gold system that would come with the jeep, the headunit is all ive changed

Are you closing or using disk at once when you burn it? I just reread your post, and are you saying a regular "store bought" CD doesn't play either?

The only things I could think of is:

You are very unlucky when it comes to HU's!
Somehow, you are muting something when a CD is inserted. Just about every one I've had or played with just played anything I stuck in it, so I don't know how you would do it without some kind of menu option or something being done..

Good luck!

My guess is that you're hooking up the harness/wires wrong. You can't completely 'mute' an Alpine stereo...at least the newer ones. It just reduces the sound by 20dB when you press it.

Like Pepsi90919 said, are you sure the factory speakers are not powered by an external amp anywhere?

Also, have you tried switching sources, say to FM radio to see if that also does/does not work?

If I remember correctly, connect the Alpine HU ground wire to the ground wire from the vehicle not just a bare metal.

No, a ground is a ground. If the head unit was not properly grounded, it would not turn on...

you have a factory amp

Yep. likely the case. Does it give you sound with the radio on, or does it output nothing from any source?

If you have a factory amp you usually need to connect the remote turn on wire..

yep, i was just about to post this

if it won't play anything at all i would say it's something with the head unit or factory amp...if it only does this with burned discs, try burning at a slower speed, make sure you finalize the disc, and try different media

other than that i don't know what to tell you

ill try that today matt

i get sound from the am/fm tuners, but ANY type of cd doesnt work, including a store bought one....

could be a defect in the HU, like a bad laser or something. Hell, i dunno. Good luck 🙂 BTW, have you tried calling Alpine?
