Head Transplants

I was just reading an article (This month's 'Stuff' magazine) about Dr. White and his work with transplanting heads. In 1970 he transplanted a Rhesus Monkey head to a donor Rhesus Monkey body. It survived for 8 days.

That was 3 decades ago, he believes work with humans is not far away.

What have you got to say about that?

But then I think, if I was in a car accident and lost all bodily functions, this would be an interesting option...but, can I choose how buff my new body is?

Can I get a nice set of breasts on my next body? It would sure save a lot of trouble, I'd never have to worry about meeting women again.

As you can imagine, there have been all kinds of protestors to his work.

But an interesting angle of protest is that people who want a Head Transplant are SELFISH! Because they'd have to get a WHOLE body, whereas that body could've been chopped for pieces (kidneys, liver and so on) and could've saved several lives instead of just the 1.

That's the interesting thing about it - is it a head transplant or a body transplant? How would you react to your new body? For example, I'm 6'8". If I got a 5'4" body would I still subconsciously duck under low door frames? And if I had longer arms would I "reach too far" and knock over drinks, etc? I think the answer would be yes to these sort of things, and it would be necessary to have your head transplanted to a similar body. 'Course, you'd still have all kinds of things to get used to.

Good point Namuna, imagine the black market price tags on entire headless bodies ;-)
