He was a good dog. But it was time.

My dog just died, after 16 years it was time. He was mobile to the end. As far as we can tell it was a heart attack or stroke it looks like he was walking and just fell over.

The Family is taking it pretty hard.

Here is to you Sam, thanks for the memories and always being happy to see me.

Mine is on his way out too. His buddy (german shepard) passed away ~3 years ago @ 16 also. I feel for you. :(

I had to put my Shepard to sleep, due to lack of mobility, blindness and deafness. I wished so hard that he would have passed away on his own. Are you going to get another dog to replace him?

Sorry to hear about the loss. I am however happy to hear that he died of natural causes.

My condolences. My family dog just died 3 weeks ago. She was 15 and her spleen ruptured in the middle of the night, they found her in morning :(

I'm so sorry. It pains me so much to hear that. I just can't stand to think about my dog dying, and for her to just drop dead....its a scary thought.

I'm so sorry Mrwizzard, I too had to put my old dog down just recently. He was a wonderful dog, and I miss him very much. He lived to be 13 years old, but was so ill toward the end he couldn't even walk and was in much pain.

It's like losing a child almost to me...

Sorry to hear.

We just had to put my black lab (14 years old) down 2 months ago. She just couldn't walk anymore. It's really hard watching them just get worse and worse until the point that they can't even move anymore, but they still have that look in their eye like the want to come to you. I know you must be hurting right now, but one day you'll look back and be grateful your dog went the way he did. Good luck.

16 years is a long time for a dog. i am sure sam's brought your family as much happiness as your family had brought him. don't grief so much and simply cherish the fond memories.
